Love Turbo Tax

I have used Turbo Tax for about 4 years now and will continue using it for many years to come. It is quick and easy for someone like me who hates doing taxes.
What's great about it: Easy to use for people who don't like accounting
What's not so great: Can't think of any.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
Generally, I really like this program and have used it for 20+ years. This year was pretty typical, but calculations were easier to track with more reliable Data Source options. I never figured out why Gifts to Charity did not flow through to Form 1116. I had to do this manually. Some Explanation statements were not requested until error checking and did not seem to have obvious answers since the calculation they were based on was completely hidden. Overall, a good and mostly accurate experience, but self checking before filing is still essential.
What's great about it: Data source was much better than last year
What's not so great: Some calculations were obscure
I have used Turbo Tax for years with good results. This year it seems that they changed the way the "Walk Me Through Everything" function works.
It failed to walk me through all of my home office expenses. Apparently, after asking some basic questions about your home office it stops. Then you have to go back and go into the EDIT screen to finish putting in your deductions. The program does not tell you that you need to do that. I assumed the Edit screen was to edit the information that I had just entered.
Unfortunately, I didn't realize that it had skipped this part until after I had already e-filed my federal return. This has caused a $600.00 error on my Federal Tax return.
Then to make matters worse when I put the information in to see if it was worth amending my return...instead of making a new amended return it over wrote my original return. Including my states that HAD NOT been filed yet.
We are using an accountant next year. Not going to put myself through all this unnecessary headache again.
What's not so great: Don't like the way the "WALK ME THROUGH EVERYTHING WORKS"
PIN NUMBER SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRED IF I CHECK FILE BY MAIL. FORM SSA-1042s, DOES NOT SHOW UP ON THE TAX RETURN AND MANY PEOPLE GET A FORM SSA-1042. I GET A SSA-1099 AND MY WIFE GETS AN SSA-1042s. if social security is sending out this form, shouldn't it be on the return?
What's great about it: FAIRLY EASY TO USE.
What's not so great: YOU DO NOT SHOW THE SSA1042 S, ON THE RETURN AND MANY PEOPLE GET A SSA-1042, ALSO WHY DO YOU ASK FOR A PIN NUMBER WHEN I
Standard mialiage deduction should be made easier. It still tries to make the car a business car that is used at times for personal use. If i were to select standard milage rate first then just enter what car and the miles driven with out having to provide a history of the car my job would easier.
What's great about it: walks through the steps
What's not so great: I really had to know what I was doing to get credit for certain home repairs.
This is probably the 10th year I have used TurboTax and my taxes have become more and more complicated because of rentals and my wife'sLLC business. TurboTax makes doing taxes fun instead of drudgery. Thank you.
What's great about it: You can follow the questions or do it yourself.
What's not so great: State e-filing costs extra.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I have returned to TTax every time I have tried others out, such as H&R Block. No program is perfect, but TTax gets a consistent 8.5 to 9.0 from me. H&R typically averages a point less.
What's great about it: Consistently good; easy to navigate.
What's not so great: Not much - only wish taxes were less complex!
