Makes business tax a breeze!

Keeps all our business records in order, even the depreciation started in 2001 on our old cars. That's why I buy it every year. I hate hate hate tracking depreciation.
Also we got huge deductions for carryovers--and I had no idea what a carryover was before, much less how to figure it.
Thanks, Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Calculates for you and keeps the figure for next year.
What's not so great: None--improves every year.

Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Transmission Didn't Work = Inconvenient
on April 15, 2014

I have used TurboTax to file my tax returns for many years, but this year I had a glitch with submitting my returns via e-filing. TT kept telling me I needed software updates, and I'm not sure why. Every year, when I load the disc i ALWAYS immediately check for updates to avoid the hassle of waiting for them to download at the end of the process. Well, this year, it kept telling me "Can't transmit returns until you check for updates." So, I did so, downloaded them and got the confirmation message they were applied. Retried transmitting them and no dice! I tried again, but it didn't work. Now I have to run to the post office and waste gas money.
What's great about it: Pretty easy, got me a refund
What's not so great: e-Filing didn't work = major inconvenience
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

usual turbo tax experience

My return is complicated, so take that into consideration when reading this review. I enter two different self-employed businesses. It should be easier to select between them. I end up going to forms to fill in. I also don't like the extra step before choosing guided or pick my own. I would rather it go right to pick my own sub sections and then if guided, just select it on that screen. The IRS has a number of forms that are missing instructions for given lines. It would be great if turbotax had that information. Apparently turbo tax is good enough because I use it every year.
What's great about it: I like being able to select items that I have the information for and just fill that entry.
What's not so great: minimal information above IRS docs, should have the kids interest income entries with the parents

States need help
on April 15, 2014

Being able to get out of easy step and go through forms really helps. I did find it difficult to enter info that TT doesn't recognize. The state returns are a joke and to charge for e file? I'll use next year, however I would have thought the program to be better.
What's great about it: fairly complete federal
What's not so great: State needs help. Could not e file VA return due to glitch. Took a lot of time to try a work around.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Still Learning New Level

Bumping up to the Home & Business version, I found some frustrations. Finding quick answers to my specific concerns was more difficult than in previous years. The video clips before were helpful in answering questions, but that was missing this year.
I do like the ability to change entry amounts to review possible advantages. However, going back (to a previous tab or section) does not always get me back to the screen I left as easily as I would like.
Audit Defense is a definite plus.
What's great about it: More details on specific needs
What's not so great: Hard to get answers to my specific questions
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Turbotax - the top tax tool
on April 15, 2014

We have prepared our taxes with Turbotax since it was first possible to do so. I strongly recommend Turbotax to friends and acquaintances. Without Turbotax I would never have the confidence to do our taxes at home. Step by step questions lead logically to a completed return. Simple menus make corrections and adjustments easy after the fact. Error checking ensures the return is correct. We can even do "what-ifs" that help us better plan for next year's taxes.
What's great about it: good interface to quicken, quick and easy to use, thorough
What's not so great: Lots of versions with confusingly different features
