Used TurboTax Home & Business. Was able to file by 2/15 including the wife's side business of making jewelry. Had 2 errors on the review of my Federal taxes by TurboTax and got help right away from their professional support staff and was able to resolve the errors promptly. Have used TurboTax for several years and I really like it.
Turbo Tax has made it easy for me to file my returns, I do feel like I get the maximum return in the shortest time possible done while in the comfort of my home in my PJ's. It's fun watching your totals grow or decline and it teaches you what has a positive or negative effect on your return and how to offset owing in the next year. I am able to locate my returns every year and although I am not a tax expert, I feel very comfortable doing my returns myself not to mention all that I have learned over the years by doing them myself!! I picked up a couple of businesses and was nervous about preparing something more than a 1040EZ, but turbo tax came through again and made it very easy for me to file my personal and business taxes. You have to be a very detailed person from the beginning of the year to make filing as easy as possible especially when you have more than one job, student loans, second mortgages, businesses, etc. Until next year, I'm all done!!
What's great about it: Information is mostly easy to understand and there is an additional "Explain this" tab
What's not so great: There are some things that are over most people's head that may require more explanation or examples for clarification
I love turbo tax and think it is great, but I would like you to consider offering a cheaper version for those like me who have to file taxes for our daughters who work in other states. Yes, they should do it themselves but they are not yet ready for that. They make paltry salaries and it cost more to file than they get in a refund. Not sure what you can do, but any assistance would be helpful.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: a little pricey for those who have to file in multiple states
I had to go on line to find a way around this. I was born before Jan 1, 1946 and should have a benifit on my pension schedule. The benifit, due to my age, was not carried over from the Federal return.
What's not so great: The Michigan pension schedule (Form 4884) should have been included in my work sheets.
It gets easier and easier every year! I have been using this software for many years, I buy one for our business and one for our personal taxes, It gives me a complete snapshot of the previous year and keeps track of carryovers. I highly recommend Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Transfers all the information I need year to year
What's not so great: A little slow going through all the steps
I could not possibly do my taxes without this software. My only issue is that there are usually too many updates and sometimes the software will not allow e-filing because it thinks there are more updates required, but when I go to get updates, it has none.
I worked both the HRBLOCK and the TURBOTAX this year to see which would give me a better outcome. Although the HRBLOCK software was easy to use, it seemed to cut out a few of the deductions and error checks that the TURBOTAX has routinely come up with. TURBOTAX offers a greater selection of check lists and forms and easy to access to information. I LOVE TURBOTAX!
What's great about it: Easier than H&RBLOCK, faster and better!
What's not so great: Be careful in the S Corporations and Partnership areas
