Everytime I closed and fixed the errors, they were there the next time and some more to boot! Very frustraing experience to say the least. I've used Turbo Tax for at least the last 6 years and this year was very difficult. I've always felt very good and can't say the same this time. Feel unsettled and concerned.
I have used Turbo Tax for years and it only gets better each year. Love the fact that you can read information about everything as you go through the tax forms. Thank you again!!
What's great about it: Walks you through everything you need to know
What's not so great: Can't think of anything!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
This is my second year using Turbo Tax. I think you do a very good job overall. As a company your reps I dealt with go above and beyond to assist. However, if I knew last year to save my taxes (2012) as a .tax document instead of a PDF, I would have saved time this year. (2013 are saved as a .tax). It would have been easier to compare the 2 yrs. But my biggest difficulty was DEPRECIATION both on the house itself and the improvements to the building. Depreciation was difficult for improvements made to the building. Appliances and Fence were both easier to depreciate using Turbo Tax. Since there is always room for improvement I think A) clear explanation on saving the tax form as a .tax for us download users B) better questions to ensure that depreciation on improvements to the building and the building itself are captured on the tax return more easily. I believe the 2012 Turbo Tax was easier in capturing deprecation than the 2013. Overall though I like Turbo Tax a great deal. Because of Turbo Tax I will be buying Quick books if/when I start a home business. (besides the house I rent).
What's great about it: I like Turbo Tax! It empowers individuals to do their taxes. It teaches as it completes the form.
What's not so great: This year DEPRECIATION on a rental property was difficult and less than clear. NEW roof was tough to depreciate.
Overall This is a great product. I would like to see better guidance for investments and small business situations. It is easy to get lost in the program when working through these tax situations.
What's great about it: Calculates and files taxes without having to learn tax code
What's not so great: Doesn't clearly explain all tax situations
Once I downloaded the Home/Business version of TT I had no difficulty at all in using the software to complete my taxes this year and my experiences with it were excellent as in previous years. However the online version left a lot to be desired. I had difficulties with completing/updating the Asset Summary Table and in making changes to it; I wasn't able to correct several errors in my state return that transferred incorrectly from the Federal entries, and none of the worksheets downloaded when I went to save my return (with worksheets) on my computer making error checking difficult. I wasted a lot of time using the online version before downloading the download version which forced me to redo my return from the beginning.
What's great about it: Download version is excellent
What's not so great: Online version was disappointing
I've been using TurboTax for a number of years now. I tried the HR Block software once and didn't like it. I like that the format is like a CPA is asking you easy to understand questions. Every year my taxes seem to get easier to do. Sometimes if you make a mistake, it's not intuitive how to correct it, but most of the mistakes I made were non-consequential and didn't seem to impact my refund.
What's great about it: Asks questions in an easy to understand format
What's not so great: Navigation could be made easier.
