For some reason Turbo Tax NEVER recognizes my husband's retirement plan on the Kansas state taxes.Every time I've used it, I've had to go back into the forms and manually enter the correct amount. We each have money going into a retirement system, mine being KPERS on my W-2, his being KF on his. The program only recognizes my amount for additions to Kansas income, and if I don't manually correct it, it files the amount incorrectly. The only reason I know this is because we were scolded by the state and had to pay more money the first time it happened. Now i actually look for it, but shouldn't have to, since that amount is in the W-2 information that I enter, and I am paying for a tax program to do the math for us.
What's great about it: Detailed and leads you through everything.
What's not so great: Too many charges for filing state taxes

We started using TurboTax after our CPA left us out in the cold following receipt of a notice of audit from the IRS a few years ago... We haven't looked back. What a great tool, even for those who are accounting-challenged!
What's great about it: Easy to navigate, clear instructions, thorough

Filing with ease!

Thank you Turbo Tax for making it easy to file tax returns. There were a few years I really did think of switching to a different program. However, for tax year 2013, this was the smoothest I have had TT (Turbo Tax) work in quite a few years. Again, very user friendly, very easy to navigate if you did not want to enter in the guided order offered. Also very easy to find some areas that previously you often had to bring up the form to enter the number. I will quit rambling on about how great TT is but IT REALLY WAS/IS VERY USER FRIENDLY and VERY EASY TO WORK WITH NO MATTER IF YOU USED THE GUIDED APPROACH or your own.
What's great about it: Very user friendly. Carried over EVERYTHING needed to efile.
What's not so great: This year none that I can think of

Turbulent & Taxing

The filing this year has been vexing. Everything seemed to be fine until the end of the journey.....
Although I always purchase the high end version of TurboTax, I was not able to e-file this year because interactive files could not properly exchange information within the program.
To be precise: K-1 info, when put in a 8949 form did not align with Schedule 1099-B forms. The latter could not be permanently overridden even though the info clearly went to the wrong columns, without being able to switch columns or content
This is how the program managed to calculated an initial buy of an investment as a negative number! (because it was placed in--and retrieved from--the "loss" column.
When trying rectify it ("override it"), it got stuck, because it wll not allow for any corrections..
That had two critical consequences!
Not only did that happen to result in higher taxes owed,
it also made e-filing impossible.
I was able to print the IRS files but ad to correct some info by hand. That worked with the IRS.
But my State of residence, New York, will only accept e-file submissions.
Even so, I will try to mail it to them, but I have a sense that it will not be processed, and trigger late penalties, and such...
I spent almost two evenings on trying to tweak the problem, but have not been successful, alas.
I did find a solution posted on your Support site (Matching Form 1099-B to Form 8949),but that only works for the LongTerm Holdings (--simple by putting specific info in mis-labeled columns-) but I have not found a remedy that will allow an e-filing to go through for sold positions.
All in all a mixed bag. The program knows what is wrong, but offers no solution. I would be most grateful for a suggestion or a fix!

What's great about it: Have used Turbo Tax for 15 years. It is a big help in organizing and filing with accuracy.
What's not so great: Lack of critical flexability when bypassing a K-1 or 8949 glitch.

going to he irs site only to find hat i could make a payment using turbo tax, but not the software hatt i purchased was extremely disappointing. I also tried to reach customer service via chat and telephone with no success. I have been using Turbo Tax since it first came out and am so disappointed that I will look to see if here is anoher option that will solve this problem.
What's great about it: Can't see a pro
What's not so great: would be better if I could have filed a federal exension electonically
