Ok it took me 14 hrs to complete from start to finish with no breaks, so to speak...I bought turbo tax about a month ago and thought that i could just whip through it, well if i had all the info i needed handy maybe i could have, but i had to look for a few items, print a few items from intuit, add up receipts from this and that and then spent an hr on the phone on hold for turbo tax to answer where do i put non-employee compensation 1099 misc info on tax return....I had to form a business, its not a business i just paid someone to help me with stuff cause with my job i didnt have time, i paid her out of my income, but over all i am happy with results and i didnt think i could actually accomplish doing taxes, i am so proud of myself and my husband proud of me too!!!
What's great about it: i did taxes all by myself, i didnt think i could do it
What's not so great: putting in the 1099 for non-employee compensation
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Wonderful Time Saver

If there's any Cons, it's the government's over-taxation at the Fed, State & local city levels that when combined, really do not encourage or help businesses, especially small operations like my own...this software sort of points out what is clearly over-taxation. I remember the years in which I would do this manually myself, never again! Thank You INTUIT !!!
What's great about it: Simplifies trying to understand gov't forms

Turbo Tax's 2012 computation on our 1040 was not correct for taxable Social Security income. It was $814 short so we had to pay an additional $120 in taxes.
Also, I have no idea where the program got the figures to compare our 2012 tax figures to those for 2013 as they were so far off I couldn't believe it. There was a difference of almost $15,000 for our AGI as well as other figures being incorrect. This sort of thing doesn't do much to generate a feeling of security and trust in Turbo Tax software.
What's great about it: Nice to have from last yeart all personal info imported from last year and to have all the computations seem correct .
What's not so great: 2012 computation not correct

Its Deductible is Awful!

Items in It's Deductible are from the 90's or earlier. Time consuming to find an item. No current items from this century are listed.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax is easy and fast.
What's not so great: It's Deductible is tedious and archaic

After the wrong 2012 tax file was imported I did not catch it until 1/4 of the way through. I had to locate the file to upload and start over from the beginning.
What's great about it: Walks you through all you need...
What's not so great: did not list all 2012 tax files for possable upload (select)
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

A lot to like

Turbo Tax seems to keep getting easier to use. One criticism I have for 2013 is that the "Save As" feature was not on the file menu. It only showed up when I did a search for the command from the Help menu. I want to save multiple copies of my return with different scenarios, and found that a bit harder this year. I am not an expert, though, so perhaps I missed another way to do this. I also thought the section on IRAs was not as straightforward as it should be. It walked me through by asking me how much I had set aside, or was planning to set aside. I want TT to actually TELL me how much to put aside in the type of IRAs I indicate I want to use, not wait for me to say what I was planning to do, have TT do its calcs and tell me I can't, and THEN tell me what I could do. So I had to punch through a couple of times for me and then adding in my wife to see what we could put into our IRAs. I would have assumed that TT would have as a primary assumption that those of us doing our taxes want to be guided down the path of being told exactly how to maximize our IRAs. When I saved a file using "Save As" the program wanted me to password protect the file, for my safety it claimed. Ok, but it did not tell me if when I submit my file for electronic filing, will the IRS need my password? No? If not, then am I saving it with a password on my PC for my safety, but submitting it on the internet without one? How is that a ton safer? There are a number of small changes like this I would make to the user experience with TT.
What's great about it: Easy to use; auto-loads data from many financial sites
What's not so great: IRA section not as straightforward as I would like
