This is the fifth year I use TurboTax for my Tax return, and again it has been an easy experience. No filling of complex sheets, just the answering of straightforward questions. Also the automatic download from my broker account tax info makes the tax preparation simple.
What's great about it: Automatic download from my broker accounts
I have been using Turbo Tax for years and I have really enjoyed the ease of the program. If you need details it makes it easy to find and if you need help there are several options available. I have always recommended this program to my friends! I feel that with the price that 1 state should be included.
What's great about it: I like how Turbo Tax makes sure that you have thought of everything.
What's not so great: I wish state was free with the purchase.
Really straight forward. Get your records in hand (or enter them as you find them) it is not hard to do. I have been using TurboTax for years and I now use it to do my taxes for out small business (and my regular job). I have always been happy. I needed help transferring my work from the online TurboTax.com to the desktop version, I posted my question someone answered in a matter of minutes. Thank you.
What's great about it: Straight forward. Easy to use if you have all your records in hand.
There's a fee for preparing the state returns, a fee for e-filing the state returns, a fee for processing your refund. We will probably look for another tax preparation software program next year because the fees are getting out of control.
What's great about it: Easy way to tie multiple state and federal returns together using one set of information
What's not so great: There seems to be a fee for everything now
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments
This is my second review, for a second return I did for a family member. This was a basic return so very simple, and TurboTax did a great job. I like that I had the option to choose which categories to go through, since it would have taken far too much time to have to go through all of them for such a basic return. However, when I got to the end there was a big problem. It wouldn't let me e-file the return because it said there were updates available. Okay, whatever, I'll just get the updates right? But once the updates were loaded, it continued giving the same error message no matter what I did. I checked for updates again and there were none. Then I tried e-filing again and got the error message again that I couldn't file because there were updates available. I waited several hours and tried again, same thing. Finally I was forced to print the returns for mailing instead of e-filing, because the e-filing system had totally shut down due to the updates. This is a flaw that desperately needs to be fixed.
