I have been using Turbo Tax for many years and I rely on its accuracy and thoroughness. It gets a great worry off my shoulders.
The examples are efficiently presented to help understand each case.
What's great about it: Easy to follow

Turbo Tax 2013 Home & Business

Overall the program is very good. However, not being able to load onto Windows 8 is rediculous!!!!
I will not be purchasing this program again until I research whether I can use on our newer computers. I was fortunate to still have a laptop with Vista on it.
PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE!!!!
What's great about it: Like the walk through for deductions
What's not so great: Could not load the Turbo Tax CD on my computer with Windows 8

very solid, but...

I receive K1's, including some from partnerships that derive income from multiple business activities.
Although TurboTax allows you to describe a partnership as one who receives income from multiple business activities (e.g.,both rental and business income)...the software then flags any such form as erroneous.
Accountants have reviewed these forms and determined that they have been properly prepared. Why then does TurboTax insist that they are wrong? I don't like submitting a tax return that TurboTax suggests contains errors.
What's great about it: ability to download W2's and info from brokers
What's not so great: "false" error messages
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Trouble with updates - delayed filing
on April 17, 2014

I thought my taxes were complete and would be automatically filed on the 15th. I was traveling and was not aware I needed an update prior to submitting. I am now two days late in filing. Also, once I discovered this, it was a challenge to obtain the update. When I finally found a way to obtain the update, it did not activate until I completely shut down my computer and rebooted it. This should not be this complex. I have used Turbo Tax for years and never had trouble like this before.
What's great about it: Easy to use program, step by step
What's not so great: Updates for Mac seemed flawed.

Turbo Hyper Fly Da Cash!

TurboTax was recommended by my CPA. She said "you're smart enough to answer many of the questions, which I don't have the allotted time. If you use TurboTax, basically that what I use; you will get much more on your return." This lead to a greater financial future of tax returns.
That was great advice.
What's great about it: Leave no stone for refund uncovered. Maximize!
What's not so great: Didn't have any
Pros: I bought or sold investments

FPYMT-072-01 - date bug
on April 17, 2014

completed the return a little before midnight 4/15 and made the mistake of checking for updates (I hadn't done the update check prior#. the slowness of the update check pushed me a few minutes past midnight before I submitted the return.
I set the payment date at 4/15, but turbo tax told me it was changing it to 4/16. I completed the submission successfully.
the next evening I get a reject notice from turbo tax:
"FPYMT-072-01 - If the return is received on or before the due date of the return, then the Requested Payment Date must be on the due date or before the due date."
I went thru the steps to try to fix the issue and resubmitted and it rejected again.
I read many other reports of this on line, and determined that the only way to get it e-filed was to choose Pay By Mail.
other than that, the only issue I had in filling out the forms was the lack of a clear way to input our moving from one house to another and the ramifications with home office. I was able to do this eventually, but it was cumbersome.
one other suggestion - I use the same vehicle#s) for work on multiple rentals and also a sched C, but I have to reenter the same data on the vehicles for each form. you might think about allowing a choice of a previously entered vehicle in these forms.
on the whole, I like turbo tax. the date bug, however, was a HUGE negative this year.
What's great about it: used it for years without problems
What's not so great: couldn't pay because of the date issue
Pros: I moved

Many times tax knowledge lacking

I have never had problems in the past with turbotax Last year and this any time I questioned a line I was asked to look up in IRS booklet. If I wantede to do that I'd do them myself. On my state return my profit/loss was only put on my profit in turn I was given more income which was wrong.
What's great about it: CD
What's not so great: Asked me to look up in IRS and State books

Not so good this year

Every year I get tripped up in the same place ... Business Income and Expense and Farm Income and Expense. I start putting in the data for Business only to find out ... ooops it goes into farm, and then I can't get back to the place I put information in erroneously to get it back out. Leads to inputting information twice which really makes a mess.
