FPYMT-072-01 - date bug
on April 17, 2014
Posted by: dateBug
from TN
completed the return a little before midnight 4/15 and made the mistake of checking for updates (I hadn't done the update check prior#. the slowness of the update check pushed me a few minutes past midnight before I submitted the return. I set the payment date at 4/15, but turbo tax told me it was changing it to 4/16. I completed the submission successfully.
the next evening I get a reject notice from turbo tax: "FPYMT-072-01 - If the return is received on or before the due date of the return, then the Requested Payment Date must be on the due date or before the due date." I went thru the steps to try to fix the issue and resubmitted and it rejected again. I read many other reports of this on line, and determined that the only way to get it e-filed was to choose Pay By Mail.
other than that, the only issue I had in filling out the forms was the lack of a clear way to input our moving from one house to another and the ramifications with home office. I was able to do this eventually, but it was cumbersome. one other suggestion - I use the same vehicle#s) for work on multiple rentals and also a sched C, but I have to reenter the same data on the vehicles for each form. you might think about allowing a choice of a previously entered vehicle in these forms.
on the whole, I like turbo tax. the date bug, however, was a HUGE negative this year.
What's great about it: used it for years without problems
What's not so great: couldn't pay because of the date issue
Pros: I moved

Many times tax knowledge lacking

I have never had problems in the past with turbotax Last year and this any time I questioned a line I was asked to look up in IRS booklet. If I wantede to do that I'd do them myself. On my state return my profit/loss was only put on my profit in turn I was given more income which was wrong.
What's great about it: CD
What's not so great: Asked me to look up in IRS and State books

Not so good this year

Every year I get tripped up in the same place ... Business Income and Expense and Farm Income and Expense. I start putting in the data for Business only to find out ... ooops it goes into farm, and then I can't get back to the place I put information in erroneously to get it back out. Leads to inputting information twice which really makes a mess.

Good but Some Frustration
on April 17, 2014

The over all experience was good. I feel that I found all the business information I needed to submit my taxes. When I submitted my federal return I inadvertently entered my AGI from the State return. On looking for help in undoing this I found nothing helpful on the help site. Many answers were wrong. I had to wait until the submission was rejected and then could resubmit the return with the correct AGI from 2012. I will use Turbo Tax next year
What's great about it: Walked me through the tax process, Offered detail explanation when needed
What's not so great: Help system was frustrating and some answers were plain wrong

What's great about it: Updated tax deductions, Detailed organization, Explanations of unfamiliar deductions/expenses/income
What's not so great: Editing requires going through entire subsystems

Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Easy to find, input, print; everything to make a disagreeable job easier to do. Clear short informative answers within each step of the program were very helpful - I didn't need to go outside of the information provided even once this year. Very well done.
What's great about it: Really easy to navigate.
What's not so great: Pricey.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I love Turbo Tax! I have used it for many years. I find their customer service very helpful and the product itself flawless. There is a real assurance when purchasing audit defense as we do our own taxes.
All in all super product, people that gives is worth the money. (Which is cheaper than hiring an account!)
What's great about it: help with rejections for silly reasons
What's not so great: help center needed to print state only
