Turbotax 2013

This year I was very disappointed in my Turbotax experience, when it came to filing the taxes. A software glitch (I have a MAC, not a PC) would not allow my taxes to be transmitted. A message kept coming up, saying that updates were available. I would download them, then try to re-transmit. Repeatedly, it failed to transmit them, with a message telling me that I needed to 1-download the updates & 2- file them by snail mail. There is no excuse for Turbo-tax to not have the MAC thing right by now. Very frustrating.
What's great about it: As usual it was easy to use. That was the good part!
What's not so great: When it came time to file, April 15, it would not transmit my taxes.

CA state form was onerous
on April 21, 2014

As a decade-plus user of TurboTax, I can definitely say I really like this product. However, I had to file a CA state return this year, and I was baffled beyond words and ended up having to go to a tax accountant to get it all sorted out. Admittedly, I had a very strange tax year since my work situation changed. But TurboTax's rendition of the CA return left a lot to be desired: It seemed to use the exact language that is on the CA return with little to no translation.
What's great about it: Federal form is easy to use, forms are accessiblee
What's not so great: Difficult to understand state returns
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I had to go through a couple of new forms and really pay special attention to some of the wording. Some items that were important seemed to be be interpreted by me as not so important causing considerable extra time and the refiling of an extra return or two.
What's great about it: placed all necessary information on all appropiate forms
What's not so great: some explanations placed in hard to find places
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Software Glitch
on April 21, 2014

Overall it is a great product, been using it for years. However, when I got to the payment portion, there was a software glitch which prompted a screen "payment process timed out."
When I called the Intuit phone number, it was explained it was a software glitch in the CD version. I got a confirmation number and my return went though without any problems. Great customer service!
What's great about it: Very easy, good explainations on each area
What's not so great: Payment process caused a delay

The IT SBD form for Ohio taxpayers with Sch C and e income is confusing. Also, when I entered the SBD deduction it crashed my Windows 7 operating system forcing a reboot.
This happened twice so I know it was not a fluke.
What's great about it: Fairly complete and dependable as usual
What's not so great: Didn't incorporate the Ohio IT SBD form

Thorough

Overall, best tax software on corporate market today. A well liked perk is importing all important previous year's records into next year's return, saving time and math, especially on Deductions - 179 carryovers - Vehicle and Office History - etc.
Do it.
What's great about it: Navigation, Error Check, Importing Data
What's not so great: Some steps/questions aren't completely direct
