I had to take this tax preparation on myself as an owner/operator of a (micro) LLC. The Turbo Tax forms for an LLC asked for specific deduction and other information. This I filled in. Then I discovered I'd need the Home/Business program to. When I began filling these in, again, but a little more specific were deduction and other information I could fill in. So, I had to hesitate long and hard about where the information would have the best fit; in the LLC preparation forms? The Home/Business forms? Or both? I opted to leave them all, pretty much, in LLC forms so not to have double entries. But, this could have been explained better. All in all, it does a tremendous amount of calculating in the background (It's Majic) and prepares these very, very professional looking forms. And, once done, if Turbo tax trusts them...I might as well. It took me quite awhile but my outside tax preparations were up in the thousands. I found myself totally without anyone in my community to do taxes. I have to Thank Turbo Tax for its online availability and ease to download. YES! I would recommend.
What's great about it: Pretty much walks you through it all.
What's not so great: LLC and or Business deductions aren't explained well.
My Wisconsin state taxes were rejected. I called the Wis Dept of Revenue and the person there said go to your fed. form and change the unanswered state refund to 0 and it will go through. " Are you using Turbo Tax?" " That is a known problem" I spent an hour on the phone with Linda trying to fiz my state form and this was the answer from the Wis . Dept of Revenue. I am disappointed.
I have been a Turbo Tax user for years. I have never been as frustrated using your program as I was this year. If I did not already know what my return should include for income pieces and deductions your 2013 program would have led to a "good to go" return with a much higher tax due and incomplete pieces. The user in 2013 must guess way to much about where the program should next go or treat certain data for comfortable use. For the first in years I cannot say that I would recommend your program to others. You have quite a bit of work to do to be truly useful and competitive again.
What's great about it: generally similar to prior years
What's not so great: Very clumbsy this year, key points lost in odd hiding places
I've been using Turbo Tax for 6 years, and this time it was the easiest ever. Installation and updates were simple and flawless. After following the prompts, I had no problem going back and adding or changing entries. The error checking works great, and I got the best refund ever. Thanks.
What's great about it: Easy, no problems, thorough, comprehensive.
Turbo Tax is great for filing most individual 1040's. In my experience of helping others with the more advanced versions for business or rentals, its still very good. I recommend it to everyone who cannot afford to pay a tax preparer and even for those who can. TurboTax is easy to use.
I'm a registered tax return preparer (IRS) and have prepared taxes for almost 20 years. I know that state returns are usually e-filed with the Federal return for a small fee. A whole lot less than what Turbo Tax charges. One state return should be included along with the IRS return.
I have more than 1 sole proprietorship and Turbo Tax has never, as long as I've been using it, calculated the remaining property tax amount to be taken on Schedule A correctly. I always have to make a correction to achieve the correct amount.
What's great about it: good questions
What's not so great: vehicle mileage for multiple business & state filing fee
