Easy Step not so easy; S-Corp not explaine
on July 1, 2014

There were not enough options available for one of my business situations. I tried to enter information about business use of our vehicles in two separate business. In our situation, we didn't have options available which fit all our car disposal/acquisition/transfer issues, and could not adequately answer questions about the "sale of my business vehicle when I stopped using it" for business, since I didn't actually sell it. I just let my husband start using it for his business when his car was totalled. Then I got another car for my own use! When I tried to enter the information on the form I was faced with terminology I didn't understand.
More importantly, when asking if we have an S-Corp, the benefits of having one were not explained to us - or we certainly would have had one sooner! When we consulted an accountant for the first time in 8 years of my husband's business, (about the above minor problem with the vehicles) we found out how many thousands of dollars we could save on Social Security tax by having an S-Corp! We won't be using Turbo Tax anymore! I'm embarrassed to say we should have gone to an accountant 8 years ago. We thought Turbo Tax was saving us money by helping us find all possible tax savings, but we were wrong!
What's great about it: I like the Easy Step process of answering questions, and the option of choosing what I work on in a particular session.
What's not so great: Some questions do not offer enough possible answers. S-Corp benefits not adequately Explained!

Great Tax SW

I have been using Turbo tax for several years. Using Turbo tax is cheaper than going to local tax person and I can review it in my own time and place.
Your tax return is as good as information you provide to either tax SW or to tax professional. With Turbo tax, I can always review it and do research on my own time. With tax professional, if I missed a deduction(s) or income(s), I need to setup either appointment or play email tag.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions.

claimed birth date missing so would not filed electronically,
verified that I indeed did include birth date, but system would not allow me to refile electronically.
How inadequate is this.
What's not so great: filed electronically would not accept

great for most tax situations

I like Turbotax. This year though I received a Schedule K-1 with entries in box 16 D and E. This caused TurboTax to throw a very cryptic error. I looked it up on the TurboTax support forum and a lot of users had the exact same cryptic error! Something about a separate worksheet being needed for D and E. I never did figure it out, nor did the other people on the support forum. This experience messed up an otherwise flawless performance. Intuit needs to get that sucky error condition fixed! Obviously it has existed for a while, and it is very confusing. TurboTax does a good job making tax stuff easy...so fix this!
What's great about it: easy to follow step-by-step
What's not so great: Schedule K-1 prep

Excellent Overall
on July 4, 2014

Easiest version yet. Overall excellent.
Minor annoyances:
A couple of forms did not always link data properly - in particular, an asset work sheet that didn't enter prior depreciation. Quick Zoom showed that the info was there.
I use the same vehicles in more than one business. I should be able to enter the basic information, make, year, total mileage etc. once only. This lets me allocate the milage per Schedule C rather than have to re-enter all of it for every C vehicle report. It is a database, after all.
Major annoyance: No longer able to generate 1099s from Home and Business. Never able to generate W-2 from the Mac version.
What's great about it: Easier than ever, fewer bugs
What's not so great: Minor links do not work properly on a few forms. No master vehicle entry sheet
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
