This is the biggest chore of the year for me, but turbo tax made it easy, simple to follow instructions, great explainations, love the double checks and efiling was quick!
They found deductions I didn;t know that I had.
Thank you Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Easy to use, fast, found deductions I didn;t know I had
What's not so great: Who likes doing taxes?

You absolutely need to provide an export/import provision to/from Excel from Sch D for verifying the imported stock capital gains data. The way Turbo does it just does not work. It takes horrendous amount of time to cross check stock buy/sell info downloaded from brokerage house against personal records. People need to export the data to a spreadsheet, compare/correct, then import it back to Turbo.
What's great about it: Well organized
What's not so great: Lack of spreadsheet gateway
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax didn't know how to deal with Gas Leases
on August 11, 2014

from Seattle, WA
This was the first year Turbo Tax didn't know how to deal with a problem. It didn't know how to deal with residential gas lease rent and royalties from the same residential property. Also, the help topics and online info was lacking even though there were numerous questions and complaints coming from others. Very disappointed this year!
What's great about it: could import info from last year
What's not so great: Program didn't know how to deal with Gas Leases from residential property

Flexable, Durable and Well Sturctured

Business version is required for Estates and Trusts yet Home and Business are required for Schedule C applications and Individual Returns. Would think Estates/Trusts would more appropriately be packaged with Home and Business.
What's great about it: Interview processs well structured, generally user friendly,
What's not so great: Home and Business vs Business versions are parckaged inappropriately
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Finally, got it done
on August 14, 2014

I have used Turbo Tax for many years, but am seriously considering going to a different product. Having to look up info on previous years and enter is ridiculous. when last years information is needed, the program should find it and enter
What's great about it: Finally got it done
What's not so great: Look up of IRS forms impossible as inpast years, does not carry forward as much info as it should

Improvements suggests
a) see major con above. For instance, if you were working in the deductions section and finished a subsection, it would take you back to the "menu", but it would jump to the top. You would then have to scroll down to the next item you wanted to work on and click on it. As most people (me included) work in the order suggested, as it snaps back to the menu section, it should return you to where you were and show the next item down, which is the most likely place to want to go next
also, as I do normally do a "draft" return first to file an extension and then a final, I end up repeating many sections to be sure I have all info entered. Annoying to have to answer the radio button questions from scratch each time. If I have answered them once, it should default to those if I want to re-edit a section.
What's great about it: good interview
What's not so great: re-editing sections annoying as does not remember previous choices
Pros: I bought or sold investments
