Good product to handle moderately complex tax situations, such as self-employment alongside salaried employment, plus rental property. Also handled tax returns for deceased father-in-law.
What's great about it: Comprehensive, both general and specific

Overall, TurboTax (TT) is good. Instructions are easy to follow, and tax computations appear accurate.
TT does have some shortcomings, year-after year. The biggest headache is that TT is very poor for Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT). I have sporadically needed to file AMT. TurboTax punts on this: it directs me to fill out paper forms, and provides essentially no guidance. This defeats the purpose of using TT, which is to avoid paper forms and the confusing IRS instructions that accompany them.
Another problem I had this year was filling out state tax forms for 2 states. TT asked me to input the $ amount I paid when previously filing for an extension of time to file. Unfortunately, TT couldn't accommodate 2 states: TT required me to specify the name of exactly 1 state. (It complained when I didn't input a state name. When I did input a state name, it allowed only a 2-letter abbreviation for one state, with no option to enter a second state nor specify multiple states or no state.) I had purchase TT for 2 states, and had worked my way through completing both states. TT telephone help was unable to correct this; they also refused to report it as a "bug," offering instead to report it as merely a "request for a future feature." That's a deceptive way to handle a bug -- probably motivated by a desire to under-report/under-admit bugs.
What's great about it: Mostly clear, easy-to-use step-by-step instructions.
What's not so great: Some confusing instructions. Poor for Alternative Minimum Tax.
Pros: I moved, I bought or sold investments

Generally, the first quarter of every year is so busy that I always have to file an extension, and this year wasn't any different. I was finally able to make time in July to e-file my federal return. I had to postpone my state filing becuase I was broke, and would need the money from my federal tax refund in order to pay for completing my state returns...I had 2 of them to do again this year.
Somehow I muddled through the state forms, one of which was very complicated and of a state I never had to file in before (word to the wise: don't accept temp work in Pennysylvania). I did run into a few issues with the return, and it is quite troubling that when I went into the help-system, I found that several people had the same question come up 8 months ago, and TurboTax had not resolved the issues this late in the year...yet I downloaded 3 updates before making out my tax returns. The issue I had: I intended to e-file one of the state forms, I had to enter an override to input my direct-deposit info, and that got flagged as an error, saying that I couldn't enter direct deposit info for filing a paper return. But I wasn't PLANNING to file a paper return! Of lesser importance: I discovered that the state forms didn't automatically pick-up that I had filed an extension and checked the same box on the form, so I had to correct that myself. This year, TurboTax 2013 installed on my secondary Windows 7 X64 computer, but refused to install on my primary Windows 7 X64 computer where I wanted it. That at least is an improvement, as last year TurboTax 2012 refused to install on both Windows 7 computers and would only function on my ancient Windows XP laptop computer.
What's great about it: Finally able to work-around the issues
What's not so great: That there would BE any issues 3 weeks before the extension deadline

This software worked almost as expected. I was not asked to upload 2012s data. Had to scrap 2 days work in the version with 2012 data. Other then the above problem everything else worked great as always.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax always works great for my small business
What's not so great: I was not asked to upload 2012 data when first starting. Had to spend several hours repeating data.

This year was way more challenging to use

My biggest issue was working with the K-1 for a real estate and trust. Turbo tax would not let me enter all the information that I was given by my accounting firm on one K-1. I needed to open a second k-1 and separate the information. Rather than guide me through this process the program just continued to show me an error. It took hours of my time to solve the issue. I eventually called the accounting firm that gave me the K-1 and was able to understand how to fix the problem. However the situation has made me seriously question if I want to use turbo tax next year.
What's great about it: Most of the steps were easy
What's not so great: I had trouble with the K-1 and with entering my bussiness auto expenses
Pros: I had a baby

When taken step by step, no stone remains un-turned. I always feel my return is complete, and that no one could have done better.
What's great about it: I feel like every question has been answered by the time I file.
