Suggest that a question be asked when an entry is made for an IRA. "Form 8606, Non-deductible IRAs needed?" I forgot it was needed until I made the 1st print out. One situation I encountered when I paid to file State electronically. The State was rejected due to too much withholding was taken out of an RMD. The excess was taken due to the PBGC not witholding out state taxes on my pension. Can the credit card charge be withheld until the file is accepted? Canceled if the file is rejected? I am going to contact Customer Service to get the charge canceled.
What's great about it: Easy to follow forms and instructions
What's not so great: Wasn;t obvious that one form was needed.
I've been using TT for 8 years and I like it, except that it's gotten too expensive for me over the last few years. They've got me hooked because it's so easy to import information from year to year, but I'll have to look for alternatives.
What's great about it: Easy Step-By-Step
What's not so great: Sofware is now too expensive; State e-File even more expensive
My taxes are complicated to say the least. I'm a Commercial Pilot and subject to DOT requirements and a Film Maker that incurs Production costs. Both are Self Employment as well as having the occasional W-2.
Needless to say I have to Itemize taxes and have two Schedule C's as well, plus the typical deductions of kids in college and a house.
Turbo Tax removes a lot of the complexity of tax time without having to pay a Preparer upwards of $500-$1,000 to go through all this for me.
What's great about it: Ease of Use, Accuracy
What's not so great: Definitions sometimes hard to find
We've used TurboTax since1992 and have been so thankful for the expertise lent to this product! I took the tax course in 1992 & 1993 to work for a tax company (which definitely helped), but the tax laws keep changing every year -- BUT TurboTax takes all this into account and produces a product every year that is impeccable! AND if you feel the need, they offer immediate assistance and Audit Defense...for a reasonable price as compared to tax processing companies or CPA fees. Thank you TurboTax!
What's great about it: Various levels of complexity made easier to understand!
What's not so great: It does take time and common sense to get through all topics!
