2013 TT was more difficult to install than previous years' versions. Unfortunately I wanted to do my taxes over a weekend and there was no customer support available. I used SIRI and GOOGLE to locate plausible solutions for the problem I was having and finally was able to install the software.. There seemed to be a reorganization of the forms presentation that I found confusing. I have used TT for around 10 years and never found it necessary to seek assistance. This year I found it necessary to seek help from customer support. Bottom line - All's well that ends well...
What's great about it: Ability to perform EDITS easily and ease in accessing last year's filing.
What's not so great: see review

I have used Turbotax for over 25 years and each year the program gets better. Last year has to be my most complicated year yet and I was still able to research and find answers to my questions. I have worked at home for almost 25 years. Last year I sold my home and bought a new home, both with home offices, and Turbotax had answers to all my questions. I feel confident when I answer the questions, that my return is complete and accurate. My husband and I have 12 children between the two of us and I assisted with 5 plus our personal one. I did not realize I had a limit on the e-filing and will mail the kids more simple returns next year so that I my more complicated one can be e-filed.
What's great about it: I sold and bought a house last year with home offices and was able to ask questions and get answers.
What's not so great: Too many kids returns, so could not e-file my personal return.
Pros: I moved, I bought or sold investments

I like TurboTax overall. This year felt like a comedy of errors with a Schedule C mark as estimated problem that could not be resolved, forcing me to file paper instead of online. This and the fact that the security certificate for TurboTax secure transactions is expired or unsigned means there were problems paying for Audit Defense. Please fix these bugs for next year. Thanks.
What's great about it: Easy to use and autoimport
What's not so great: Problems with expired security certificate and Schedule C estimated items not being able to unmark as estimated

Always a great experience-if paying taxes can be great?
What's great about it: Fast and easy!
What's not so great: Some obscure forms require more explanation.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

I don't understand why the automatic updates sometimes don't work. Saying I do not have "administrator priviledges" which is wrong. Then, I had to go to the website to download, which was also not easy. Hidden downloads page???? Finally succeeded, but took about an hour, for something simple that should have been 5 minutes.
What's great about it: Saved money over CPA
What's not so great: I hate constant updates. Especially when it doesn't work easy

Exceptions for Nominees

My sisters and I have a joint investment account. It earned interest, dividends, and we sold an equity for a small loss. I could deduct the interest and dividends as a nominee, but I could not do it for capital gains. So I had to override it. Over-rides are prohibited when filing electronically in TT.
I would have preferred to continue to file electronically, but allow a text statement to explain the override. That's what I'm going to have to do on paper to both the feds and NY State.
What's great about it: I've been using TT since for a long time.
What's not so great: This is the first year that I can't file electronically.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
