It went very well

Last year was the 1st full year working out of our retirement funds. We have a home based business, rental properties, a farm, rolled over 401K funds, and itemized deductions. We have been using TurboTax for the past 10+ years, and last year it took only 3 hours.
This year because we dropped the farm income and expenses the program still kept asking for vehicle expenses. Finally had to go to the actual IRS Form 4835 and reenter all the required entries as 0. It took me a couple of extra hours to figure that one out.
In passed years we've tried other tax software (was a little less expensive), but they never measure up to TurboTax and cause way more frustration than the savings we realized.
The only better thing would be for the IRS to be abolished and the income tax filings would be replaced with the Fair Tax. I don't suppose Intuit would be to excited about that though. :-)
What's great about it: Easy of entry
What's not so great: When it (I) messes up, it's hard to find out why
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Improvement over last year

My biggest complaint for 2012 was entering K-1 forms was not logical and the program did not help me fill in the boxes very well. This was easier this year. As an owner of a small business / self employed it was sometimes difficult to determine which section to enter various deductions, this is an area for improvement. I also liked the auto calculation for maximum deposit into a SEP IRA. Unfortunately there were a few items that seemed to have carried over (deductions with $0) from the 2012 return that I had to go to forms to clean up. They were flagged during the review process, but hard to find how to edit them in the program. I just went to forms and deleted the entries. At the end of 2012 I almost gave up on Turbo Tax, but for 2013 I'm glad I stayed with them.
What's great about it: Much improved over last year
What's not so great: Still leaves some carry over items from previous years entrys
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I have used TT for the past several years - TT makes it EASY to file even my relatively complex taxes. By walking me through everything step by step, I am certain that I have filed accurately and have not missed any potential deductions.
What's great about it: Step-by-step, clear instructions
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Need to go back and forth between forms/interview

Every time you fire up turbo tax, it asks the same questions you already answered. And it asks questions that it already knows the answer to. There are some items that if you start in interview mode are difficult to augment in forms mode and vice-versa. For a business, you will need to use both modes.
What's great about it: Uses past years data. This year is much faster than a few years ago.
What's not so great: If you fill some stuff out with the interview, you cannot edit it in form mode.

Make it Easy and Make it Right!

TurboTax lets you know what to expect, what is usually not included, but lets you decide what you want to do. It will walk you through all the expenses, deductions, income, and every detail of the taxes, and then lets you know your chance of being audited based on your responses and inputs. Great program just gets better every year.
What's great about it: Walks you through with explanations all along the way
What's not so great: Don't have any

This is the umpteenth year I have used TT Desktop. You would think it should get easier, but there is always at least one wrinkle. This year it was figuring out how to apply part of my State Refund to next year's taxes. I had to loop thru the State Return process MANY, MANY times as well as search online to find out that you have to go ALL THE WAY THRU the Estimated Taxes portion to actually just Apply some of the Refund.
What's great about it: Makes a complex job easier
What's not so great: Hard to find some things, including some obvious ones

I have used TurboTax on and off for over 15 years to date. My wife and I have several simple business ventures and investments and we have saved thousands of dollars each year by basically (and actually quite easily) doing our accountant's job. We couldn't be happier!
What's great about it: Every tax form I ever imagined we would need (and then some!)
Pros: I bought or sold investments
