My return was fairly complex due to property rentals, stock sales and K-1 due to Sub S and Estate matters. I also discovered that apparently Turbo incorrectly calculates the depreciation for rental property. It appears to be using the IRS tables which I discovered does not give the correct SL depreciation. The IRS written instructions do give correct $$ for depreciation - not so with the tables. The software gives no hint or way that I could tell to correct prior year numbers so wound up spending a bunch of time with the IRS guides concerning same.
What's great about it: Fairly decent guideline
What's not so great: On complex matters in gains/losses can be tail chasing
Pros: I bought or sold investments

No longer worth it for me

I've always had frustrations with this software, but this year it was at a whole new level. If you have even a slightly complicated income situation, it's not worth it. For example, there was a glitch in one of the income sections, which others had had problems with and posted in the online community, but there were no solutions and it wasn't fixed. So I was stuck, without any options and no support. Beware.
What's great about it: Used to like this
What's not so great: But glitch without solution is making me drop this next year

Last year was the 1st full year working out of our retirement funds. We have a home based business, rental properties, a farm, rolled over 401K funds, and itemized deductions. We have been using TurboTax for the past 10+ years, and last year it took only 3 hours.
This year because we dropped the farm income and expenses the program still kept asking for vehicle expenses. Finally had to go to the actual IRS Form 4835 and reenter all the required entries as 0. It took me a couple of extra hours to figure that one out.
In passed years we've tried other tax software (was a little less expensive), but they never measure up to TurboTax and cause way more frustration than the savings we realized.
The only better thing would be for the IRS to be abolished and the income tax filings would be replaced with the Fair Tax. I don't suppose Intuit would be to excited about that though. :-)
What's great about it: Easy of entry
What's not so great: When it (I) messes up, it's hard to find out why
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Improvement over last year

My biggest complaint for 2012 was entering K-1 forms was not logical and the program did not help me fill in the boxes very well. This was easier this year. As an owner of a small business / self employed it was sometimes difficult to determine which section to enter various deductions, this is an area for improvement. I also liked the auto calculation for maximum deposit into a SEP IRA. Unfortunately there were a few items that seemed to have carried over (deductions with $0) from the 2012 return that I had to go to forms to clean up. They were flagged during the review process, but hard to find how to edit them in the program. I just went to forms and deleted the entries. At the end of 2012 I almost gave up on Turbo Tax, but for 2013 I'm glad I stayed with them.
What's great about it: Much improved over last year
What's not so great: Still leaves some carry over items from previous years entrys
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I have used TT for the past several years - TT makes it EASY to file even my relatively complex taxes. By walking me through everything step by step, I am certain that I have filed accurately and have not missed any potential deductions.
What's great about it: Step-by-step, clear instructions
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved
