In by the deadline!

The TurboTax process was straightforward as usual - from my initial extension to the October e-file. I may amend with more information in a couple months, but that process is typically painless as well.
Pros:
- The TurboTax interview process is a wonderful walkthrough of key return items. I do not transfer from Quicken, but am able to review my Quicken reports and quickly get the correct data into the correct spot in TurboTax.
- E-filing is finally here for my situation (multiple 2106's per filer# at both the Fed and state #MS) level. This is a great plus for me, as post offices here in my small town don't typically stay open until midnight on tax days.
- Overall, the TurboTax experience is smooth. Kudos to Intuit.
Cons:
- My Mississippi state return picked up some odd "additional" 1099s that failed my review. They were not in my Fed return, and did not have a delete option in the state return. They also required Payee, recipient, and tax ID fields filled in. I was able to work around this by filling in dummy values, but it was a minor annoyance that I hope is fixed before next year. As there were no monetary amounts in any of these 1099s, my tax situation was not affected.
What's great about it: Excellent interview walkthrough as always; e-filing for my situation is finally possible!
What's not so great: State return (MS) created some "phantom" 1099s for me
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Beyond the Value

I have used TurboTax for 7 years. Always been a huge fan of the ease of use and how they turn complex IRS language into simple questions and answers. BUT this year, I am particularly grateful. I had an unexpected unique tax circumstance this year. Fearing I would owe a lot of taxes unexpectedly in a down year, I called a Tax Advise Agent and they showed me a form worksheet that I was unaware existed. When I ran the numbers using the worksheet, I found I not only didn't owe money, but had a small refund coming my way instead. Before hitting the Efile button, I called back to review this new-to-me form and worksheet with a different Tax Advise Agent and they were equally as helpful.

A rough year for us!

The home office deduction was extremely confusing. I had the income to offset, but it kept telling me I didn't qualify. I switched to the forms view and was able to use the deduction. When it went through the error process, I was asked questions that I did not understand. This has never happened before, as Turbo Tax has always been extremely easy...a blessing these days!
What's great about it: Very, very easy
What's not so great: Home office deduction extremely confusing
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

The product guides you through the process very easily. I just wish the help sections would have been geared more for the inexperienced that don't know that much about taxes. The breakdown of information could have been a bit more clear.
What's great about it: Ease of guidance through the program
What's not so great: Needs more detailed information for dummies

This is the best version of Turbo Tax to ever! I've used Intuit Tax and Accounting software for over two decades.
It started as a very tedious form based program that wasn't much better than filling out your taxes manually. Then it progressed into a lengthy step by step program that had you pulling your hair out due to it's inability to just stop an avenue of questions and move ahead or back in the program. You were forced to go through a lengthy series of questions and filled out forms to get you back to where you were. Navigation was, to put it bluntly, a nightmare
But this version has the ability to navigate to the forms and back to the step by step without a very lengthy and tedious process. Navigation is much better. You can skip around to go back, and forward, and make corrections much easier. Hooray!
What's great about it: Works much more efficiently than previous versions
What's not so great: None that I can notice.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I've been using TurboTax since the 90's, and this is the best version yet (I've used everything from Deluxe through Home & Business; this year I used H&B). I really, really like the newer simplified ability to jump between interview/step-by-step questions and looking at the form that will be affected. That is very useful whenever you are doing something beyond what a simpler filer needs...like those of use who need the H&B features, Schedule C, SE, etc.. Overall it does a much better job of taking you exactly back to where you came from whenever you press BACK...in the past it sometimes jumped you to the beginning of the "module", forcing you to re-enter info. Now it's truly an intelligent BACK function, a REAL time-saver. Love it! Saving and Form Generation happen lightening fast...and the ability to print/preview at any stage is awesome instead of waiting until the end. It's not that I print intermediate stages...but sometimes I want to preview the form before I go on. The flow of error checking is much improved as well...it found and fixed them all on the first pass #carrying the corrections from one error forward to the next step, so that multiple error-correction passes weren't needed. Since I do the taxes for my family and other family members...I usually file 4-5 returns a year with Turbo Tax, and I give it a real workout and provide detailed feedback to Support about what I think they should improve. This year I have no complaints -- break out the champagne and give yourselves a well-deserved break. Wish I had a great pic of me that related to the product, but the closest would be me NOT sitting at my desk, NOT fuming over how hard it is to do taxes!
What's great about it: Easier to use than ever, online help better than ever!
What's not so great: Not obvious when filing multiple family returns that the 2-5th Fed returns are FREE to file!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
