Turbo tax rocks with all the deductions and everything that makes this product so easy. Ive used Turbo Tax for years, since 1999. Turbo Tax has always made it easy for me to file electronically.
What's great about it: great for small business
What's not so great: adding up all the receipts
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

1099's - Good, but could be better.
on January 24, 2014

I have used Turbo Tax for 1099's for many years and keep hoping that certain improvements will be made.
1) If a 1099 vendor is not used this year, "delete" is the only option, if you don't want the name to show up on a blank 1099. Adding the option to "deactivate" would be great, so that if used next year, the contact info wouldn't have to be re-entered. (Like QB customer and vendor lists.)
2) For each 1099, one must answer two questions before the 1099 amounts can be filled in - on two different screens - click yes or no, then "next." When processing several 1099's, this takes time. It would be much easier if, next to each vendor on your list, there were boxes to check "yes" or "no" for the two questions, streamlining the task.
3) More print options would be nice - such as allowing one to print a one-page 1099 for each vendor, rather than the 2-page version, since the state copy is not needed if taxes are not withheld. I always go in and select pages, rather than print these, which, again, takes time.
What's great about it: Overall good format and uploading of prior year return
What's not so great: See Below

Great for multiple returns
on January 24, 2014

A very detailed and easy to use program. You can use this for multiple tax returns if helping out your friends. Great price, but could be a little cheaper if just downloading the software. The state return prices are a little high as well, but I realize you have to pay for all those tax updates/changes!
What's great about it: Can do multiple returns for family/friends
What's not so great: Cost of state returns
Pros: I moved, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Easiest and Simplest way to refund.

There should be one page check list before starting the return. This page should ask about all tax related items and then rest of the software should go accordingly. This will save user from answering unrelated questions.
What's great about it: Easy language in plain english, simple and understandable questions.
What's not so great: Did not find any.

Not yet 5 Stars.....But pretty good!

I have used Turbo Tax for years. It holds your hand and walks through a variety of situations by asking questions about marriage, dependents, college expenses, rental property, 401k and IRA contributions and distributions and more to ensure everything is covered.
I was disappointed to find that once the state return is initiated , and let's say a new tax form arrived in the mail that had been forgotten (it's happened to me!) ANY changes made to the Federal return does not carry over to the State return which is NOT evident to the user. The user may inadvertently file an incorrect state return and not even know it. I would think that as good as the software is, it should be able to update the state data if the federal is updated.
I did not realize this was the case until 2014, many , many years after using Turbo Tax. I am guessing many other users have also not realized this.
I have not used other tax prep software, so I can not compare it to others.
I have rental property and , farm land and this makes taxes easier!
I'd gladly give five stars if this one problem was fixed!
What's great about it: Easy to use, walks you through everything
What's not so great: If you need to make changes to Federal after you start state, it does not update the state information with the new info
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I have been using Turbo Tax for the last 4 years of filing. I am addicted, its pretty cheap and it guides me through each step. When it doesn't have the info I need, a quick search on the internet and I am to the relevant IRS regulation. It does make my heart race the way it calculates what I owe or am owed for taxes as the number changes quickly as I go from income to deductions. It was an almost perfect experience this year but one thing could be much better and that is the step by step guide for investments as it directly relates to stock options. I am not referring to Incentive stock options, but the retail kind where you buy/sell calls/puts. With these kind of investments, my broker, and many others do not hand out 1099-B(as they are not required to by the IRS). I found clearer guidance on how to file this type of capital gain/loss in the forms then I did in the step by step guide. I ended up getting it done correctly using both in Turbo Tax. As I paid for the whole software package(TT:H&B), I would hope that the investment portion would have been thorough enough to walk through this. That is my only complaint, but I got it done with the help of internet, it just added a couple more hours to the process. Taxes are done! TurboTax was very beneficial to the process and I'll be using them again.
What's great about it: Loads prior year returns, No duplication of effort
What's not so great: Stock options not detailed at all
Pros: I moved, I bought or sold investments
