Stress Free and Easy to Use

Love Turbo Tax product, have been doing my own taxes for 20+ years and this product made the task so stress free and less time consuming! I highly recommend this product.
What's great about it: Don't have to be a tax expert to use as it walks you through everything. Easy to use. Access to experienced help.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Errors Found that have highlighted boxes - Problem
on October 16, 2014

from IL
IRS Form 4644 would not let me out of the Error mode.
Even after I deleted 4644 the Error page for 4644 re-appeared.
I did not know what to do. The drop down box listed about 20 different areas which I had nothing to do with. I do not know how I got there and there are no instructions as to what to do on this box.
A blank box kept being highlighted.
Finally I clicked the hidden "+" to get a detail box in which I put "NONE" and $0.00 in the amount field. It satisfied it for a little while but still went to be reviewed but I finally got past it.
TT needs help also on the IL tax form when dealing with Retirement Income exclusion. It highlights $ amounts but never provides any Instruction to FIX the problem amounts highlighted from the IRS 1040.
Please investigate these problem areas.
What's great about it: NOnt
What's not so great: I did not like the LACK of instruction as to what TT wanted me to do to correct the ERROR it was highlighting.

Great help in some areas

Most of home and business turbo tax was very helpful and informative. It got very tricky when I wanted to depreciate my home office on my schedule f farm. Numbers on my out of state return did not add up. I ended up not filing because it did not make any sense.
What's great about it: Step by step explanations :)
What's not so great: No home office depreciation in Turbo tax, Had to do it by hand :(
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Comprehensive, powerful software and support

We're a couple who each has a small business on top of one being employed as a full-time CEO. We have the full mix of investments, SEP IRAs, Simple IRAs, business travel, cars used partially in business, cash and non-cash donations, and on and on - TurboTax Home and Business guides us through all of that and handles it all with ease. There's always Q&A-type help, direct access to tax code and explanatory articles, and live help.
The only thing TurboTax can't fix is how insanely complicated the tax code is; that's going to require a ballot box.
What's great about it: Simplifies a silly-complex tax system
What's not so great: Nothing comes to mind
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

It would be more convenient to use the actual tax forms as the screen template for data entry vs the easy question approach. It allows better tracking of progress. Use the form template to pop up the questions and info you provide now.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

No Audit Defense available to late filers
on October 16, 2014

Disappointed in Turbotax not allowing me to have some representation if I get audited. Could I possibly get Audit Defense if I am filing by mail after 10/15/2014? Not by how the Turbotax program forces you to file by mail and denies payment by credit card. I will probably try contacting Customer Service to see if there is another way to obtain Audit Defense. Otherwise, my experience using Turbotax was good and it works well with the Quicken software as well.
What's great about it: I found all the answers to important questions.
What's not so great: I could not obtain Audit Defense due to filing after 10/15/14
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

This is my first time doing our taxes after having our accountant do it for several years. I am not knowledgeable about accounting or tax filing at all.
What's great about it: Easy to navigate through
What's not so great: Not a good understanding of the rules/deductions etc
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

2013 Turbo Tax Could have been better
on October 16, 2014

from Savannah, Ga.
I have been using Turbo Tax for 20 years and Home and Business for over 10 years. 2013 was the most confusing. I have always been frustrated by going into a section for the second time to make one minor change, click continue and Turbo tax would start asking me questions I had already answered the previous time I was in the section and it did not keep the answers for review. This time, however was worse. I entered all of my business information in the business section. Then when I got to the personal income section it failed to transfer my 1099 income into the appropriate section. I clicked update and it started asking questions again. I stopped answering them and called support. They didn't know what was going on either. The result was it created an additional Home office worksheet from the Personal Income section as if I had two offices with the same address. After over 4 hours back and forth with support I finally figured it out and deleted the second home office sheet.
These issues I would like to have addressed:
1. Made sure that every help link says something helpful rather then releasing software that says that this help link is under construction and will have information in a later release. This was already October!!
2. When I re-enter a section to make changes, retain the answers to all questions so that I will know that I do not have to answer the same questions again and that Turbo Tax does have the information I want it to have.
3. If I enter a section that uses information already entered into a previous section like Business Income for Schedule C in the Business Section and Personal Income 1099-MISC information In the Personal Income section, transfer all related information without asking me to enter it again.
4. When you ask me if I had certain carry-forward information from one tax year to the next, TELL ME - DON'Y ASK. It is really frustrating having to pull out the last year return and look up a certain line on a certain form to enter information on the current tax form. You have access to that information. Just tell me what you have. If something has changed since I last filed the return, give me an option to change it, but at least tell me what I had last time.
4. I would like to be able to delete test tax files from within the program instead of having to go into the file folder and delete them manually.
5. I would like Its Deductible to be part of the regular software like it used to be, or at least have the instructions for how to get to it when you get to the Charitable Contributions section. I spent an hour or so before I figured out that I had to enter the information online and import it. I would rather have the latest version of Its Deductible to downloaded on my own computer just in case the Internet goes down at a critical moment.
6. When you build the return for printing, make sure that there is a blank page between the Federal and State return, if necessary, so that when I print on both sides of the paper the last federal page is not on the front of the first state page.
What's great about it: Previous year Info transfer; keeping up with some carryovers
What's not so great: 2013 help buttons still said that help was under sonstruction
