Great program
on April 18, 2014

I felt this was a great program. Was fun doing my taxes for the first time!
What's great about it: program was easy to use, understandable, like how it shows how much is owed, or refund amount each time data is entered
What's not so great: was not able to print a receipt after I filed my taxes.

Easy To Use
on April 18, 2014

TurboTax is easy to use and inexpensive compared to hiring a tax professional, such as a CPA. I have been using it for years and am pleased with the results.
What's great about it: Clear, simple, easy, good support
What's not so great: Always the nagging doubt that a pro may have found more deductions

Never Easy

Wish you would sit with real users to find out why TT is so frustrating to use. Too many times you have to go back and forth or over the same things. Error messages are sometimes not accurate.
What's great about it: easy stuff is easy to use
What's not so great: tough stuff is hard to use and there is too much wasted time

Frequently lost info even after saved. Figuring where/how to place intellectual royalty income under Schedule E was a nightmare.
What's great about it: Easy calculations in categories
What's not so great: Prone to lose data
Pros: I bought or sold investments

The detail involved in each step is easy to understand and very helpful. Going back a second time for review made us realize we had missed an entry and saved over $300!
What's great about it: step by step
What's not so great: nothing
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Improvement Requested
on April 18, 2014

The software overall is excellent to use. Very easy to navigate and covers all the necessary categories. I would like to see the software analyze the return of a married couple and make recommendations as to whether the return should be file as a joint return versus filing separately. In some states it is advantageous to file separately but you are required to file the same as you do your federal return.
What's great about it: Ease of Use
What's not so great: Does not compare married filing separately versus married filing joint status

Requested updates to program

I would like to request that references be input into the help sections throughout the software. When you are working on a specific schedule, there should be references to the previous year tax return line number. So for example, if you are looking up a NOL, where would you expect to find this on the previous tax return? This would help preparing the tax return much faster. There are times where carryover losses do not come across to the current year tax return and you have to reference the prior years tax return. It would be helpful to know what line item and what schedule you will find these numbers for the current tax return. Incorporating this information would put Turbo Tax at 5 stars.
Here is another thing, when doing the review, I am a repeat customer so my user name is preventing me form using it again. This makes no sense. I should be allowed to reuse my user name.
What's great about it: By far, Turbo Tax is the best software on the market to do your taxes. Ever since Intuit purchased Lacert, TT is great.
What's not so great: Need to have references to line items on the tax return for previous year in the help descriptions for topics
Pros: I bought or sold investments
