K-1 info loaded results in many error messages or lack of info that have to be corrected.
What's great about it: Good on data input and identification of errors.
What's not so great: Weak on Sch K-1's.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Great Program; Miserable Law

Beware of not reporting 529 plan withdrawals even though the entire amount was used for college costs and no part of the withdrawal is taxable. IRS computers kick out return for "omitted income." A Statement showing that the entire withdrawal was used for college costs fixes this problem but precludes electronic filing.
What's great about it: Ability to go through tax forms; zero computational effort
What's not so great: Cannot switch to Online if you've used Download previously without losing prior year's data.

Refundable American Opportunity Tax Credit?
on March 22, 2014
Posted by: redrose2
The product worked very well as usual.
However, I was confused by the results of the American Opportunity Tax Credit interview. I was a full-time student (five months) for one semester in 2013 and a part-time student for one semester. My Form 1098-T had Box 8 (at least half-time student) checked. I am less than 24 years old.
Because I was a full-time student for at least five months and under 24 years old, I did not think that I was eligible for a refundable AOTC. However, this was the result of the interview process. I was able to adjust/correct the answer to the five month question in the education worksheet.

First time filing by myself without professional help--very painless, reasonably priced software, easily updated when I needed the uploaded 1040A.
What's great about it: Very user friendly
What's not so great: None!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I have been using the Turbo Tax product for many years and I always find it accurate and easy to use. This year I had a question and a TT representative was able to assist me.
What's great about it: Ease of instructions
What's not so great: None that I can think of

Price should be reduced. If is is not or it is increased again, I may go to another tax program.
I would give it a 5 star if the price wasn't so high.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Getting too pricy

No stress taxes

This was the simplest year for doing my taxes. The data downloaded without problem from TurboTax 2012 so I didn't have to type in a bunch of data. The step-by-step walked me through all the requirements so I felt comfortable that nothing was forgotten. Things I wasn't sure about were quickly addressed with the calculations. Error checking was helpful and identified things that were missing.
What's great about it: Step-by-step guidance, error checking, easy access to forms
What's not so great: lots of questions which don't relate to me

Medical deductions

i was a bit taken back that there was no information in the software presentation, noting that my extensive medical expenses did not rate a tax refund. Perhaps it is my lack of knowledge of Federal Taxes, but an online explanation would have been very reassuring if not helpful. Perhaps you can add language in your software to address my concern for next year.
My refund was strictly monies submitted within the tax year.
What's great about it: ....
What's not so great: medical expenses, no refund
