TurboTax should refer to other returns to verify the proper handling of college tuition, scholarships, expenses, Coverdell, etc. I have two kids in college and my joint return and their single returns are all in the same folder on my PC. TurboTax should look at ALL three returns and make sure that everything has been handled correctly.
What's great about it: I've used Turbo Tax since the first year it came out, so I'm used to it and rely on it
What's not so great: Figuring taxes for two kids in college is not the best
Our Capital Gains were downloaded from our broker. It seems the were downloaded twice!!! Thank goodness I checked before I mailed them out. 10 stock sales were duplicated ( 9 were profitable). I deleted them and our payment to the IRS was changed to a refund!!
It would be great if TurboTax could review entries and look for duplicates. Then an alert to the taxpayer would be a wonderful feature.
What's not so great: Somehow our short term capital gains were entered twice
thats about it. i waited until the last minute to file, rocked thouggh the return in no time e-filed it. made copies and mailed to IRS, couldnt find address to mail the forms to but found it online. one extra step that I have found every year that I would like to see go away is the adress info. Any how mailed off my report on april 15th as i needed to. Got it done!
What's great about it: waited til the last minute rocked right through it.
What's not so great: no mailing addresses on forms to mail return copies to
I have used Turbo Tax for years and it works great. This year though I had to re-enter data manually because it was not transferred from the year before (unemployment compensation). Also, I could not attach required documents to the eFile transmittal, so I am required to mail the documents separately.
What's great about it: Transfers most data from last year.
What's not so great: Documents can not be attached to eFile. Some data not transferred from last year.
