Turbo Tax 2013 Review

Turbo tax should work off a spreadsheet. I know QB is the spreadsheet but I don't use Quick Books for my accounting. In the beginning you ask questions about what areas of income, and expenses which is not thorough enough. By adding some additional questions TurboTax could generate a spreadsheet for all the incomes and expenses. By filling out these forms you could enter all the data. This would make it easy for me.
Could not figure out, and have not been able to figure it out for years, how to apply the return to next years taxes. I usually apply all the overpayment to next years taxes, you ask for a check or some other refund...

What's great about it: Turbo Tax is basically easy to use since I have been using it for many years and know how it operates.
What's not so great: For a new user Turbo Tax is very confusing. The lines you need to fill in and most of the check boxes don't make sense.

Working with Turbo

When ready to file, I was told I had to update my program, which I did (twice) and at the end of the continuous loop of the same questions I would again be told that I could not e-file at that time and should 'update the program. Frustrated, I printed and used US mail, even after being questioned as to why don't I e-file?
Madness!
What's great about it: Math done for you, easy to follow instructions
What's not so great: Program incomplete and updates did not help!

For Mac users the scroll bar disappears and reappears. you have to click off the document to get it to appear-very frustrating. Takes up more time than actually filling in the forms. This is a reoccurring problem year after year
What's great about it: mostly easy to use
What's not so great: scroll bar problem persists

Another TT done

This is my 2nd TT filing (2012 & 2013). This year I did the state (PA) as well. I'm not too sure about next year, but I'll probably do both again. I elected a couple of additional options that cost more money, on my credit card. The cost of having TT do it is more than just the software, but all I all it was probably worth it. The alternative (doing it myself) would require getting the instructions and forms by mail from the Fed. Government or elsewhere. That would be more tedious.
What's great about it: Went through every income & deduction
What's not so great: Rather tedious

Once again used Turbo Tax for filing my income tax. Easiest thing I have ever done and trustworthy. Step by step process, details along the way and explanations if needed make things so much easier.

First timer doing my own taxes.....

After for years paying so much money to get my taxes done. I was encouraged by a friend to try Turbo Tax. I was a little nervous about it but, I bought the program and I was thrilled on how easy it was. The long standing argument that a tax person knows all the changes in the tax laws bla bla bla.
Well, so does Turbo Tax maybe even better.
I'm so happy with my experience that I will be back next year for sure. This time with no fear.

What's great about it: Turbo Tax walks you through with very easy questions to get to all the details. Very through and "painless".
What's not so great: If you save to come back for a later session. It makes start from beginning but info is saved
