Just answer the questions and the program does the work for you. I have used three out of four. I wish they would include 1 State Tax return in the Basic Edition though. Thanks for Your product and the help that comes with it.
What's great about it: It was easy, Just answer the questions and the program does the work for you
What's not so great: At least oneState tax should be included no matter which programyou buy
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Been using TurboTax for years--won't change!

I had an unusual approach toward treatment of 1099-MISC income, being a former CPA myself. I spoke with an Enrolled Agent at TurboTax to get clarification, and after listening to my rationale, he agreed that my approach was reasonable, and not subject to evasion penalties. I appreciated the cool, logical approach he took after listening to my reasoning.
What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: Hard time finding how to split refund
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

I have been using Turbo Tax for several years but this year it would not pick up prior year's return. Also, I could not download info from RBC into return.
I dislike that Turbo Tax keeps suggesting that I upgrade to a more expensive version
What's great about it: Relatively easy to use
What's not so great: Would not pick up info from 2012 so I had to input it all again

EIC questions not detailed enoug excludable income
on April 3, 2014

IRS ruling Notice 2014-7 made the MPC income excludable, however there were no instructions on how to handle excludable income. I contacted accountants who stated to back out the income as a negative on line 21, however that made it look like I was eligible for an EIC, which is incorrect.
---Additional questions on the EIC section would have helped in this situation. Instead, I simply answered the question stating that the IRS notified me that I was ineligible for the EIC, which corrected the tax return. I could have simply not listed the W2 at all, but then the IRS might have contacted me to ask me why.
What's great about it: Mostly helpful
What's not so great: Needed help on excludable income
