I've been using this program for decades, sometimes under earlier names. It has always been useful. The detail of the easy step forms may be necessary and no shortcuts are available based upon a user's last year's form. So much of the screen-by-screen entries are useless and time-consuming. The fear is that otherwise something will be lost by simply going to the appropriate form. The summary pages, however, when you get to them are very useful.
What's great about it: Carry through from previous year(s). Current refund or payment amount. Error check. Detail where helpful.
What's not so great: Continue button does not usually go back to last entry. Alphabet soup not explained, e.g. HDHP.
I have used Turbo Tax for over 15 years. I am a CPA but I have been retired from public practice for 20 years. I used several computer generated tax software products while in public practice. When I retired I started using Turbo Tax to prepare all of my tax returns for myself and others. I have not purchased any other tax preparation software since. Why should I when Turbo Tax has always lived up to its reputation-Great!
What's great about it: Easy; Convenient; Always Up To Date; Reliable; Cost Effective
For the 18th straight year I've selected TurboTax as the preferred vehicle for filing our joint return. Its ability to fill in the information from the previous year's return is really a good "memory toggle" to remind yourself whether or not anything significant had changed. Barring such, entering the new info is a snap once you have all the documentation in hand. I find that keeping [spreadsheets up to date that] track all of the necessary info is a tremendous help when it comes to filling out the tax forms. Copying them over from one year to the next, changing only the data that changed during the current year, is a fruitful project. With some experience with TurboTax , the IRS website and accurate recordkeeping, tax time is no longer the burden on my time that it was years ago, when all those forms and calcuaitions had to be filled in by hand. Yes, I'm that old - those were the pre-presonal computer years and I don't miss them a bit!
What's great about it: Very Through; with no substative changes from the previous year, easy to do it "on your own".
What's not so great: Program keeps bugging me about my state return even though it should have known that I didn't owe any state taxes.
I have been using Turbo Tax since the early 1990's and I'feel that it's the very best Tax software available I tried two other products in the past and both times I was audited and had to pay fines and back taxes
What's great about it: Easy Quick complete
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
