Best I've found

I've tried one other in the 18 years I've used a computer program and Turbo Tax seems easier. I use the basic package and it is plenty powerful enough for me.
What's great about it: Iv'e used Turbo Tax for about 15 years. It's the best one I've found. Works well with brokerage account downloads
What's not so great: Little areas in my return like foreign taxes and the sale of a partnership have been problems
Pros: I bought or sold investments

May leave TurboTax Basic Federal after 6 years

Foreign tax credit instructions need to be simplified greatly. For the first time, you carried over almost all of our info from previous year wrong. We have Windows 8. Is that why this happened? You asked for entries of zero from funds that paid no dividends, so then they appeared unnecessarily on our Schedule B with zero entries. You should do adjustments to income before you do deductions, so you know what our adjusted gross income is because, in order to compute some deductions, you need to know what AGI is.
What's great about it: 5 Free efiles
What's not so great: TurboTax makes foreign tax credit too complicated & they carried over 2012 return info wrong.

eFile rejected

eFile was rejected for an incorrect EIN number - my typing error when I entered W-2 info for 1 employer. IRS caught it; Turbo Tax reported to me by email. When I reopened TT - instructions had come in via web about procedures to correct & re-file.
What's great about it: very helpful that Turbo Tax notified me that efile was rejected

I prepare 4 tax returns each year. I've used Turbo Tax for years (ever since you bought out Parson's Technology). I feel confident I've found every possible benefit of the program each year. And when I have had a question, answers were easy to find. Highly recommend this program!
What's great about it: Walks you through everything you need to know
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Did you "dumb it down"?

I have used Turbo Tax since 2007 and every year the "Basic" edition has been adequate to download financial data from brokers. Suddenly in 2013 it has lost this ability as if Intuit is trying to force me into buying the more expensive version "Deluxe". This was a disappointment to me but I will enter the data by hand before I will buy the Deluxe" edition.
What's great about it: Does most things well
What's not so great: Seems you have degraded the Basic ed to not read brokerage info.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Couldn't do taxes without it.

I could not work through the 23 pages of return if I had to do it myself. I'd be pulling my hair out.
What's great about it: checks math and fills out the dreadful forms
What's not so great: I can't seem to figure out the source for some lines that must come from a different form.

Great Product , I love using it. Glad you know how to calculate the returns because I didn't. I also like W2 quick entry.
What's great about it: Easy to use.
What's not so great: Might want to have online assistance 24hr

Foriegn Income Filing

Doing daughter's filing (lives permanently in France but retains US citizenship) was straightforward EXCEPT for inability to enter a "none" or have a remarks section to show that spouse is a French citizen and doesn't have a SSN
What's not so great: Spouse does not have SSN; allow text "none" or "french citizen"
