Had to override!
on October 11, 2014
Posted by: PRRaynes
Overall, I have used this for over 10 years, and been satisfied - on the whole. This year I retired, bought a house, and moved, all of which worked out fairly well following the step-by-step method. However, AS IN PREVIOUS YEARS, the software asked for my housing allowance in two (2) separate places, then ADDED THEM TOGETHER - which then added to my income for my SE form. I have had to override this line EVERY year, and as a result I can NOT e-file. It will not let me send in an e-file with an override - which it considers an ERROR! Therefore, the software tries to make me pay taxes on money I never received.
What's great about it: Easy to use, helpful with changes in status & income
What's not so great: Had to override due to quirk in software for pastors
Pros: I moved, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Bond interest
on October 4, 2014

There is no place to enter accrued interest purchased and amortization of bond premium. As a result the entire interest deduction must be entered as one or the other. Have had this frustration every yr. I've used turbo tax. I'll try a different vendor next yr.
What's not so great: Accrued interest & ABP

It Doesn't Get Much Easier Than This

I have been using TurboTax for over 20 years and am completely satisfied. Granted I do not have a complex return but I have multiple financial investments with multiple sources of income. TurboTax handles them with ease.
What's great about it: Very easy to use. Covers all my financial situations.
What's not so great: Would like to see a discount for returning customers.
Pros: I moved, I bought or sold investments

The software did not allow you to use one vehicle for several businesses without an error in total overall miles driven for the year.

Late Filing Penalty
on September 21, 2014
Posted by: TurboDTax
Unfortunately, for tax year 2013 I filed an extension but made no tax payment with it because I anticipated I would be getting a refund. Well, after completing my return, I found out I owed $190 in taxes. I hope I have understood the IRS Late Filing Penalty guidelines correctly. I was expecting the Turbo Tax software to automatically calculate the exact "Late Filing Penalty" amount. I think it is .5% x 190 x 6 months. I hope it's correct.
What's not so great: No automatic Late Filing Penalty/Fee calculation
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
