Filing issue with IP PIN
on February 15, 2014

My only complaint is notification regarding entering of the IP PIN.
On my first attempt, I was not asked for my IP PIN that I received last year from the IRS as I was a victim of Indentity fraud. Therefore, my submission was rejected.
Finally, after I tried a second submission (with the same information), I slowly and thorloughly read the reject notice which states I need to go to the "Federal Taxes Tab" and click on "Other Situations" to enter my previously provided IP PIN.
Suggest that the filing screen where the-efilie PIN Number needs to be entered contains information about entering yoru IP PIN PREVIOUSLY received rom the IRS due to indenty fraud. (The screen does have information about OBTAINING an IP PIN, but does NOT discuss if you already have one.)
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions. Import from Financial Institutions is great!
What's not so great: Electronic filing if IP PIN previously received. Rating would be 5 stars if this problem had not occurred.

Some minor confusion on capital gains and losses this year probably due to late decisions by IRS on nature of forms

What's not so great: Sometimes Forms Are In Process Of Updating

It took six tries to get a printed copy to file and I never go a printed copy for my file. I have used turbo tax for the last 8 years with no problems. May not use it next year, You can do much better. Every one doesn't e-file.
What's great about it: good to the filing section
What's not so great: very bad trying to get thru filing

Imported everything in last years return, then went down the list to get all the W-2s and 1099s. The bank got lost and I had reenter for the bank interest. I don't remember doing that last year. Overall it went through everything needed to be done. Printed copy looked very good. I will use this again next year. Thanks, Tony
What's great about it: Fast
What's not so great: Didn't go to everything i had on my tax return last year

Can't live without it!

I can't live without this software. I've done my taxes with TT for over 10 years and the experience is positive every year. I don't know how I'd do my taxes without it. Relatively easy to use and the interview process makes sure I cover all bases before filing. Bravo!
What's great about it: Easy to use, user friendly wizards to guide you through
What's not so great: Sometimes hard to navigate
Pros: I bought or sold investments

When entering a 1099R for pension income turbo tax assumes there should be minimum required distributions. I found this confusing. You should ask the question "is this a pension or is this an IRA distribution?"

My biggest beef was the rebate program. Rebate for Quicken purchased with Turbo tax rejected due to wrong retailer even though they provide the forms and told me about the rebate in the first place. Rebate for state efile, I gave up since their directions on proof of purchase not accurate. If they take my money over the internet why can't they rebate as easily?
As to the program, I have done mine and other taxes for over 40 years so I am no novice. My difficulty this year was getting entry explanations when required. It seemed more difficult to navigate for those not wanting to follow their step by step.
What's great about it: quick entry, easy to understand directions
What's not so great: forget rebates, hard to navigate, calculation explanation lacking
