Pretty good stuff but sometimes clarification is not as clear as it could be.

3rd use of TurboTax
on March 27, 2014

Overall, TurboTax is not difficult to use. But there were occasional questions or options that I had to guess the answer, i.e., "Which method did you use to calculate the entry: A or B?" I didn't use either but had to choose an answer, which neither was correct, before I could proceed. By the time I fully entered all data, I owed over $1,000 in unpaid taxes. This led me to use a tax preparer to verify that I had used TurboTax correctly. When comparing the preparer's results with TurboTax the final calculations were within $1.00. But the main issue was having to consult, and pay, a third party to do my taxes because of confusion in TurboTax. However, I do plan to use TurboTax again next year.
What's great about it: Generally, easy to use.
What's not so great: Some occasional confusion about what data to enter or how my calculation was determined.

Just can't seem to get a refund !!

I have been using Turbo Tax for at least the last 20 years and
each year either my taxes are simpler or the program is better. But it seems that it gets so much easier and faster for me each year. I really don't mind doing the taxes, it's just paying them.
What's great about it: How easy and fast it was to accomplish

Thank goodness for "back" icons

Found it difficult to get my "IRS" PIN-- Some problem with my address not matching the 2012 returns...I copied it directly from my 2012 forms and it still was kicked back several times. Contacted the IRS who said they did not care if the addresses were the same from year to year or not. Who knows what that was all about. Finally got to file by using my last year's AGI . Yea!!!!
What's great about it: Ability to go back and correct my mitakes
What's not so great: Sometimes the language was less than clear, it seemed to me.

Personal Review of TT for TY 2013
on March 27, 2014
Posted by: DougBFLORIDA
For the second year, I notice that TT did not automatically guide me to my rental property expenses in the step-by-step mode. It picks up the income from the 1099-MISC filed by my management comany, but nonetheless fails as noted above. I've used TT for MANY years and only in the last two or so have I observed this failing. I believe it's an intentional effort to guide the user to order the much more expensive version of TT that claims to be essential for rental property. I don't believe that to be the case.
What's great about it: Fairly quick, completes all forms as needed.
What's not so great: Failed to automatically guide me to income property expenses
