test the water!

I bought this water filter this morning and installed it into the fridge. I use my "0 Water" tester to see how much dissolved solids were present in the water after being filtered through this water filter. The meter measured 172 ppm. I flushed 5 gallons of water through the filter before I tested it to ensure carbon and whatnot would not muddy the test result. I tested the water straight out of the kitchen faucet, it measures 129 ppm. I returned the water filter and got my money back. I also have an expensive GE side by side fridge. I have spent several hundreds of dollars on it over the four years I've owned it. I will never buy another GE product again!

Filter needs to be replaced once a month

The filter needs to be replaced once a month or the stream slows down to a trickle. At the current price prer filter it costs hundreds of dollars a year for upkeep.

No water flow

I purchased this product to replace my refrigerator water filter......followed the instructions completely as directed. "Fill the new filter to the top with water from the tap. Arrow aligned. While pushing up, twist counterclockwise or to the right till you meet resistance. Don't turn too hard. Turn it only till it stops. Go to fill pitcher with water ......says 1.5 gallons. No water flow. I remove the filter and retry. No water flow. Put the old filter back in and water flows beautifully. Retry the new filter again as instructed. No water. I open and retry another new filter thinking that maybe the first one was a dud. I follow the instructions again with the 2nd new water filter and guess what? There's no water flow!!! None! Old filter is put back in and again, the water flows. Identical filters, ie., both the filter and the box are just exactly as pictured. I really don't enjoy throwing money down the drain. I love my refrigerator.......I hate these water filters.

Filter made terrible noise after install

I have ordered all replacement filters from GE. Never an issue until this one. It made a terrible rattling noise. I put the old one back in, no problems. I returned for a refund.

Something has changed

I've been using only GE water filters for years, they were very good. You must have changed suppliers because the last one I purchased (authentic GE filter) is leaving a bad aftertaste. The filter has been installed since last May 2021. I thought this would resolve itself after a while, but no luck. My faucet water tastes much better. I'll not buy GE water filters again.

Hi there and thanks so much for reaching out about your refrigerator filter. We're sorry something seems to be a little off with your dispenser water and will be happy to help. Filters do not add anything to the water. They only reduce the amount of chlorine and other contaminants from the water, depending on which filter cartridges you have. The absence of these minerals and chemicals is what often causes the tap water to taste different.
This filter has not changed recently so we recommend checking that no odors in your refrigerator or freezer are contaminating the water. You can test the filter to see if it is indeed the cause by installing the filter bypass plug. We hope this helps and you let us know if you have any more questions. - John@GEA

Did not work properly

The water filter that I bought said that after I installed it and run 3 gallons of water thru it that I could push the reset button and the red light would go off and it has not yet and I have had the filter for close to 3 months.
