After 10 days it takes 2 minutes to get a cup of water (200ml). I stopped using GENUINE GE filters for that reason about 5 years ago. It was no such problems with generic filters. I expected that it was something done to improve quality over 5 years. Now I see that this is not the case.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Filters should last about 6 months, and we recommend using the bypass plug that came with your refrigerator to test if the filter is affecting your water flow. I have been sent 2 if these filters and neither work. I was told that this filter was re-engineered after i bought my refrigerator and should work on my 8 year old side by side, however they do not. Very disappointed with ge. I suppose it was my bad luck to have a ge product that last for so long. There will not be another ge product purchased.

Good filter ... where's the instructions!?

Filter works great ... used it for years. I don't understand why the box says to follow the instructions for installation ... and has no instructions. Had to go to this website to get the info. Installation is easy enough, as is removal of the old filter.

Variable Quality - Worthless "Warranty"

You never know how long these filters will last before the flow decreases to a trickle. If you don't install the filter immediately, the 30 day warranty is useless. At $40-50 a pop, that's a problem. As someone who has owned a GE refrigerator for many years, it's the filter performance that changes, not the water or my refrigerator. Last change, I got a dud. Was useless after a month. What's most frustrating is that the one it replaced still had good flow, but it had been on for 6 months.

Where can I recycle my old filter?

Filter was easy enough to replace but have found it difficult to find a resource to properly dispose of or recycle my old filter. Online searches suggest GE supports recycling but I have yet to find a resource where I can mail or drop off my old filter.

Water comes out slow

We have read and followed all the instructions on installing this water filter but after the first glass, the water slows down to nothing. We even put a new one in just to see if it worked better. It did not.. Needless to say we are very disappointed.... there's just the two of us living here so the fridge does not get used that much. What else can we do? We bought this Sept of last year and love the fridge especially with the filter being inside where we can reach it. Is this under any warranty you have?

I suggest you remove the filter and install the bypass plug. Try the dispenser, if the water flow improves from the dispenser, the issue is with the filter.
