Excellent buy

Since I have another Sony Bravia HDTV which is a 32" model which is about 6 yrs old. I purchased this one which is a good size that I wanted .
This set has a excellent picture and has a lot more applications that I can use, especially since it is an Android tv and is also able to be used with my wireless internet connection. It is very easy to set up, and the settings can be tweaked to suit anyone's preference.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Outstanding clarity
on May 11, 2015

This is my first HDTV (upgrading from my 18 year old 36" Trinitron# so my eyes are still adjusting and I'm trying to figure out all of the settings. Blu-Disks and 4k are outstanding but I do not have upscaling working or DIRECTV/Netflix looking good there is graininess on 1080i and lower. I have no idea if this is normal. The set has great color and clarity, features such as Netflix are not active yet #it says coming soon#. Have not activated the DIRECTV RVU client, but this should be a nice addition. The included stand has one benefit over the previous model x850b I passed on, in that it is only about 18" wide. The factory default picture settings are not ideal so if you have the option for professional setup, you may want to go for it. There is nothing on the internet about calibration yet but I'm sure this will be coming soon as well.

Hi jakkbrrr, thanks for sharing your feedback. Most of the pictures may tend to look grainy depending on the resolution. That can be adjusted on your picture settings. Please enjoy and thanks for choosing Sony!

It is really a good TV. We thought this was a nice TV quality that this was our second tv of the same model that we purchased recently. We used the other TV in a different room.

Screen too glossy for daylight operation
on August 23, 2015

The reflections off the screen in daylight rooms is highly distracting. I have white walls that bleed through on a lot of scenes. Back lit venetian blinds are vey distracting.
The screen reflects badly in very dark scenes, I like sci-fi, and the space scenes, which are very dark, allow you to see myself in the scene, literally. Once the rooms darken in the evening, the screen is beautiful.
On very black scenes, there is a cloudy appearance in the black, particularly in the corners.

My First 4K TV

I bought this TV because of it's size. Anything bigger than 50 inch would not work for my space. So I settled for this model. The price was right but the overall picture quality is too dark for my taste.

No Netflixs poor picture in dark room
on May 27, 2015

I would return this if I could. I have been a Sony TV guy for 40 years and an XBR purchaser for at least the last 25 years. I have always felt the the quality was worth the extra money. This model (49xbr830) is the worse. Although in normal lighting this has a very good picture with the lights off the picture appears dark. The manual that comes with the TV, and available on line, lacks the detail needed to setup the TV and I am not technology challenged. Netflix is not available and here it is the end of May. Are they waiting for May 31? You can't register the TV on Sony Essentials and I was told by their support it will not available with this TV. The USB ports should power off with the TV but they don't. I operate a USB fan to keep the TV cool in my entertainment center and I need to unplug it when I turn off the TV. As far as I can tell there is no way to use a keyboard or use a browser for the internet.
This will be my last Sony TV. Obviously they want to pass off new technology as improved equipment but in this case they have not succeeded. Too bad I used to think they were worth the extra money now I think they aren't worth the money.
