bad purchase
on September 26, 2014

I'm not sure if I just got a really bad one, but I have to exchange it. There is a small black dot in the middle of the screen that stay there no matter what input. The picture quality is very poor. While watching netflix, the picture goes in and out throughout the whole show. Also, the screen is almost like a mirror and reflects all lights so you see them even while it is on. Not a good feature. It has to be completely dark in the room to not see reflections. I do like the features and remote control design. But the quality of everything seems like I wish I bought a different model.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank for your feedback and for choosing SONY. What you may be seeing is one or more of the greater than 2,000,000 dots that make up the composition of the LCD screens and LED screens. These dots may appear red, green, blue, white or black. High-precision technology is used to manufacture these LCD displays to maintain a high standard of operation. On all LCD screens and LED screens (regardless of manufacturer), there may be a small number of dots that do not change color; this is a normal occurrence for all LCD screens from all manufacturers and inherent to the technology. Most of the time, these dots stay on the screen but are noticeable only while an all-white or all-black picture is shown on the screen and should not be noticeable during normal viewing conditions.

A variety of factors can influence poor picture quality, including the signal source and type of connection to the TV. We kindly recommend you visiting:

Great Purchase of a TV at a good price!

This Television has been one of the greatest purchases I have ever had. The price when I bought it was 499.99 and this is for a 40 inch TV that is very sleek, slim, and has internet connectivity. This TV has extremely clear picture quality and has great connectivity with many ports, and HDMI quality media has never looked better.

Best 40" LCD upgrade since my 40V2500.

This TV is so much crisper than my old 40V2500.
My 40V2500 still works flawess so I gave it to my grandparents.
To get away from their old Samsung CRT's radiation.
So far they love it and my grandfather loves watching NASCAR on it.
I conclude that he is ecstatic about the bigger HDTV.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Fantastic TV

I have been completely floored by how awesome this TV has been. It has exceeded every expectation. The picture is crisp, clean, and vibrant and better than I was hoping for. All of it's features work as advertised or better, so I won't go into detail about those. Instead, it's the little things that demonstrate the care and attention that went into the engineering of this TV.
To start, the audio and video settings can be set across all inputs or per input. This is unbelievably convenient for those of us that utilize vastly different devices and different types of media across different inputs. The actual a/v options are far more plentiful than anything I've encountered on either Sharp or Samsung HDTVs. Just about every aspect of the image quality can be tweaked (though there are distinct, well-designed presets, for those who don't like to tinker). The sound not only has a plethora of options, but the TV itself actually lets you manage the audio quality with a 7-band equalizer (again, this can be specific to preset and/or specific to input). Spending time customizing the audio (though you, again, do not have to) yields some wonderfully rich sound through the fairly robust speakers. They are not going to compete with a digital surround sound system, but they are better than most sound bars and are top notch for TV speakers. What's even better, is that (being a smart TV) while these speakers handle the music from Pandora, your USB device, or your home network superbly, the TV has a "Pic Off" button that allows you turn the display off whilst still listening to music. This not only saves the longevity of the display, it lowers your electric bill. In short, your TV becomes a wireless set of wonderful speakers; perfect for working out or entertaining guests.
Another great feature (and one that's been a staple of Bravias for a while) is Bravia Sync. While implementation with Bravia Sync on the PlayStation 3 was a little inconsistent for me in the past (with a much older Bravia), this feature works seamlessly with this TV. The remote control works exactly as it should when navigating video or menus on the PS3. It also works for Netflix, but there's no need for the PS3 in this regard given that the TV supports Netflix natively.
Speaking of PlayStation games, this TV supports PlayStation Now, allowing you to sync your PS3 controller to the TV, and it runs it very well.
Finally, the biggest surprise for me was how gamer oriented this TV is. Sony touts this as the best TV it's ever made for games, and I have to agree (see: all of the above). One particularly awesome, hidden gem to this effect has to do with the PlayStation Portable (PSP). The 2000 and 3000 models of the PSP were capable of outputting their video to HDTVs with the proper cables. The drawback to this, however, was that the on-screen video would be significantly smaller than the actual TV screen, which left huge black boarders around the image. This TV, however, has a specific setting that fixes that. If one selects 'Game' under "Scene Select," one can change the "Wide Mode" of the screen from 'Full' to 'Portable 1' or 'Portable 2.' The first portable setting will cause the PSP to display in full screen! The second will cause your tablet or mobile phone to do the same. In short, it makes outputting your handheld games to the TV actually worthwhile.
Truly, the only suggestions I have for this TV are minor. I would love it if Sony added a PlayStation Store app to this TV's impressive selection, and I would love it if they added USB keyboard and mouse support. Otherwise, this is easily the best TV I've ever owned.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Was disappointed with ease of use.

This smart TV was a disappointment. After using computers and smartphones for the last several years I assumed this product would be as user friendly. Navigation to various features are repetitive and somewhat confusing at times.
Apparently Sony does not like Apple as it does not seem to be able to find their devices.
The TV is a great TV, but so far for me it is not very smart.

Hello Ole123, thank you for your message. Apple® iPad™ mobile digital devices, Apple iPhone® mobile digital devices, and Apple iPod® portable players are not supported for use with the screen mirroring feature. These devices use a proprietary technology called AirPlay® Mirroring, which will only work with certain Apple TV® devices.

NOTE: For additional information and requirements regarding AirPlay Mirroring, visit the Apple support website.

Very nice for the price

Extremely light, with nice picture and very small overall size.
Only dissappointment is that there is no variable output for external speakers.
Also, not sure if I like the new style stand.
