Perfect!

Purchased for use as a bedroom TV. Easy setup, all the right inputs for my application, great features, and most importantly...a sharp, clear picture. While I have always been partial to Sony TV's, in shopping for this TV I looked at and considered many other brands...some priced less and some priced more. For the size, features and picture quality I was looking for, this TV clearly beat the competition regardless of price. Could not be happier.

Beautiful TV with many features although it's a chore navigating through those features. The stand that comes with it is FLIMSY and detracts from the TV's appearance IMO, the worst feature. Don't understand Sony not using a normal pedestal type stand. Not happy about that.

Outstanding Picture!

There are many disposable TV's out there with mediocre picture quality and sketchy reliability. On the other hand, this TV has an amazing picture and a real brand to back it. Don't waste your time on other models. If it's not a Sony, you didn't get the best.

We bought a Sony 40 inch LCD eight years ago after getting some money from a giant branch falling on and demolishing our old car at my former place of employment. We noticed that suddenly we were losing channels and the scan function was not able to retrieve them. Despite the still great picture quality I was forced to bite the bullet and buy another TV.
I decided Sony had the quality and reliability that we wanted and because of cost restraints opted for the 40 inch again. So far an excellent choice on our part. The old Sony cost us around a thousand dollars and weighed 60 pounds. This one was less than half the cost and less than half the weight. I only had to assemble the stand and that was it. Turned it on and the firmware led me through all the set up steps. WiFi connected immediately and streaming so far has been seamless. The picture quality has been stunning using just our antenna. Audio is adequate but nothing to cheer about. The speakers are good, but are still small considering the space constraints of the cabinet. I use the optical output (TOSLINK) to connect to our stereo system for a fuller audio experience.
This has all the usual connectors. Our DVD player is also Sony so the HDMI cable connected the two devices via BRAVIA® Sync. If you have shows, movies or music on a USB drive simply plug it in and stream from that device.
Waaay too many features to describe here. Just take the menu items one day at a time, experiment and see what give you the best picture and sound. The only negative, if you can call it that, is the frame/case is so much smaller and lighter than the old TV so our visual acuity is fooled and it feels like the picture is smaller. Plus, the stand is lower so it takes some getting used to after having the old set sit 4 inches higher for eight years. I'll just build a small stand and we'll be set.

Sony 40" HDTV. W600b

This is a super cool TV. Still learning some, but here are some comments. Easy set up. Over the air channels are discovered and loaded in. You can block those you don't want, but you have to discover how. Operation manual is via picture/remote button. Non-techy people may have some difficulty. Auxiliary power, channel, volume, menu buttons on left rear panel. Pleasant surprise if the remote isn't working/available.
Picture is great! However, fast motion sometimes is "blocky/blotchy". 99.2% unnoticed. I noticed this on the car wall shadows behind Nascar's at night. A very tough call and I'm nitpicking. There may be a setting I haven't found yet to help this.
This is my biggest concern, Coax port is awkward and doesn't have enough "relief" forcing cable to bend more than it wants. Port seems flimsy and moves a bit. Coax cable can be somewhat stiff and I hope I don't break something here.
I'm over the air HD only, coax in from outdoor HD antennae. Local 1080i is stellar! No satellite bounces or cable for local shows is the best! Channel changing over the air is "different". I can't use the channel numbers on the remote to jump around. You can use the Channel Guide though, and once "set", jump back and forth if you want to monitor two channels.
Speakers are marginal. They work best between EC columns and I'm OK with that. Just plan on a sound bar or connect to your surround system if you want more. They are not cheap, just facts of life for a thin frame LED TV. Software/adjustments for them is cool.
Football is great! It has a "football button" which is kinda cool, albeit, maybe gimmicky. I don't use it. Audio changes to a "stadium" experience. Probably would work best with surround sound. There may be other effects.
The Smart part. A internet connection is helpful but not needed. There are extras in the programming with that. I am using the LAN setup as Wi-fi is not working well for me. I have an off brand ruggedized smart phone running 4.2.1, no surprise. Not a big deal, LAN will be faster for those freebee's, or If I choose, PPVs like Netflicks.

Very Nice

The set is fine and does a very nice job. Easy to jump between sources.
I only have one complaint. I bought the set locally to replace a 37" Sony CRT, which was state of the art when I bought it. I have a 50 inch which replaced the 37" and now the 40" . My problem is that I cannot get anyone to take the 37" Sony. Its too heavy! I thought by purchasing the 40 " locally the seller would arrange to have my old set recycled. While this was my understanding, it hasn't happened. It would be nice if Sony would take back these old TVs. After all it was their performance that earned my loyality as a customer.
Thank you,
Bill

This TV is my first HD TV and I'm very happy for my choice. For the quality and the price I choose the Sony over Samsung TVs.
