Ink last forever!

I have been very pleased with this printer. Good quality color and B&W prints. And, it's true; the initial supply of ink has lasted me two years, and we are still running strong. The only think I wish is that I spent the extra money for the automatic duplexing feature.

Carbon Footprint Guilt No More

I purchased the Epson Eco Tank Printer, because, I love to print stuff. All kinds of stuff. I was frustrated with how quickly the tiny cartridges emptied out, and how much waste the cartridges were creating, when you considered the multitudes of people using printers, daily. This printer installed easily, takes very little space, and prints like a champ. TY Epson, I really love this printer.

Anticipation...of saving in the long term

The idea of lowering color printing costs by printing with refillable liquid ink instead of often-expensive cartridges is the most appealing reason to get an Epson Eco-Tank printer, and that’s why I got this printer, the ET-2550. At the time I got this printer, the ET-2550 was not a current model and some improvements were made in later models, most noticeably being the ability to refill the ink from the front. Esthetically, the ink tanks on the ET-2550 form an extension on the right side of the printer (as viewed from the user looking at the front of the machine), so the footprint of the machine is probably larger than a cartridge-based inkjet printer. Make sure also you have room on the right side of the machine if and when you need to refill the ink tanks (or perhaps be able to pivot the machine so the ink tanks are more accessible). I’ve so far only printed a few pages so I won’t see my anticipated benefit until I’ve used this printer for a much longer time period. Filling the ink tanks is the most challenging part of the set-up process. The ink flows freely from the bottle, so it’s important to make sure the open tip is fully inside the opening to the appropriate tank. Also, because the tip is narrow, you do need to squeeze the bottle to make sure all the ink is deposited into the tank, and make sure the tip stays inside the tank opening while squeezing the bottle to avoid any messes. The tip has fins that keep the bottle from going too deeply into the tank opening so you don’t suction ink back up into the bottle. After the ink is in the machine, then you can start the priming process, which takes about 20 minutes, and after that you can load paper into the paper feed in the back. (The instructions warn against loading the paper during the priming step to avoid wasting ink or prolonging the priming process.) While the machine is priming, at least you can use the time to install the printer drivers and utilities on your computer. When everything is all set, the software will print a test page. Paper feeds from the back of the printer and printouts come out the front, a straight paper path. The ET-2550 can print, copy and scan and there is a color LCD touchscreen on the front tilt-out panel, and the machine can print and scan wirelessly. The ET-2550 prints one side only, so if you need to print on both sides you’ll have to manually flip the paper over and refeed it to print on the other side. Rated print speed is 9 letter-size pages per minute in black and white, and 4.5 ppm in color. Since this machine is not my primary printer, this speed and the lack of double-sided printing was acceptable to me. Of concern to me (in the long run) is the difficulty or inability to easily change or replace the “ink absorber pads,” which will create an error message and force the machine not to print. Epson says this will occur at about the same time the machine is near the end of its usable life. I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Breaks quickly!

We've had it for about 1.5 years. We've refilled the tanks once. I cleaned it using the self cleaning feature, then used an online tutorial, then tried to recalibrate it using the diagnostic program included - it still prints with poor color quality and with lines where there shouldn't be.

I've had my printer for over a year and initially when I first received it it worked perfectly. However, lately I can't get it to print anything. Granted I haven't used the printer as often, but I can't seem to clean off the printer head in order to print color. All of the tanks are full.

Not what I expected

I found installation of the printer rather difficult and cumbersome. Instructions where not clear at all. (I have installed tons of printers of different manufactures before). The ink nozzles clog easily if not in constant use. The color output accuracy is also disappointing. Lastly, we have to constantly check the ink levels but they are not very easy to see. Especially in the black tank, the fill level is hardly visible. The idea of a refillable tank sounded appealing but the usability is not there yet.
