Good concept, bad printer

I love the concept of this printer and it is so easy to refill and prints fast. However, it doesn't like to work nearly 80% of the time. I have it connected to my network but the printer just won't print or scan. I have to try 3-5 times to print something before it will finally print it. It will just keep failing and I have to go into the job queue and restart the job over and over again until it finally prints. It does the same thing with scanning. My laptop pops up on the scanning option so I know it's there, but as soon as I go to scan to computer, it errors out saying computer in use. The interface is not user friendly. You have to scroll through different options and it's very difficult to get to what you want. None of the troubleshooting tips I found have stopped the problems I am having with this printer.

We are not always buying ink!

Although we are not always buying ink, the print quality is less than adequate for presentations. Its clunky and loud when printing. When switching from print to scan to copy you have to make 3-4 steps! Time consuming. Also don't even think about putting card stock; for example binder tab labels in the machine. The printer will not take it. We won't be purchasing another and will probably be returning.

NOT for a busy workplace, do not get if you need speed

I've had this printer for 2 weeks now. The only thing I love about it is the EcoTank part and the ink. That's it. The spooling takes for*ever* (started printing finance charge invoices 10 minutes ago, 2 copies each) and it's completed 7 invoices thus far. I may switch printers tomorrow when we have to do statements or my staff will be here all night and into the weekend waiting for it. If I choose "print direct to printer", instead of spooling, it takes 15-30+ seconds before it allows program use. Scanning platform is not user-friendly. Will not allow to edit file name until saved, then have to search for it and rename. Copy quality is not sharp. I will be pawning this off onto the next work station we put in.

EcoTank 4550 - Fast and Easy
on March 13, 2016

I purchased the Epson EcoTank 4550 for several reasons. Though the price of this machine is a little more than others, the life cycle cost for printer ownership should be significantly less than cheaper printers with more expensive cartridges.
The printer is extremely light and easy to setup. The instructions are a "must read" to setup your printer successfully. Following the steps correctly will ensure that the printer is setup properly and appropriate software updates are installed.
I read some reviews prior to purchasing this printer and it seems that the greatest concern is "filling the tanks" with ink. It's easy to do and not at all messy - simply follow the directions and take the necessary precautions should a spill occur.
I was a little surprised that it took almost all of 20 minutes to charge the ink but otherwise the installation was flawless.
Note that the printer comes with an initial ink charge and a bonus bottle for each color as well. Note that the ink has an expiration date. For my printer, the date was 07-2018.
If the current supply lasts at least year, it's best to wait and see how long the current supply lasts before purchasing more.
I recommend downloading the software drivers over the internet to ensure you receive the latest version.
Also, after installation was complete, the "system" performed a firmware check and update as well.
Overall, the installation process was really quite simple, though not necessarily fast. The results are worth the wait and ultimately the "Congratulations, you have successfully installed your new printer" page printed.
Another feature that drew me to purchase this printer is the WiFi Direct connection that enables me to print from my iPad, iPhone, and other devices.
Print resolution and quality is more than sufficient for my purposes. Overall, I'm quite pleased with my purchase.

Not good at all so far.

Very nice looking printer, but looks only get it so far. Literally bought this printer three days ago, finally set it up today. Printed the test page, and instead it printed out about 8 blank pages. Then a minute later it printed the test. Tried printing a document several times, with and without the double-sided feature and it always spits out annoying amounts of blank pages, and then jams. Not happy at all so far, will probably return it within the next week.
