Document Feeder

Document Feeder is for scanning only - they don't mention this in the specs. I need to print checks and it is a pain to keep messing with printer cartridge. Never anticipated - bummer.

So far, so great!

Easy to set up, even for someone like me who is using ink bottles vs. cartridges for the first time. Rapid, high-quality printing. And the best is yet to come - an endless supply of Epson-brand ink at a fraction of the cost of ink or laser toner cartridges.

wireless installation/configuration nightmarish

setting the printer up was simple. Getting to it connect to the wireless router at the studio was incredibly complex and obtuse. The onscreen directions said to push the WPS button on the router, which killed the router and disconnected all the other devices, requiring a 1 hour fone call to our service provider to reconfig that device. The wizard didn't config or connect the printer and doing it manually had more screens on the printer screen than the online documentation showed. I have 30+ years of IT/networking professional experience and was stumped. After telling the printer to forget the previous setups, I Started over and keyed ALL the info again, after I had installed the drivers on the laptop. Then it found the router and finished its auto-config. The average person will have NO LUCK setting the wireless up. Dunno whats going to happen when I try to get the Ipad to connect.

Printer Review

I found the installation instructions straightforward and sufficient. The ink charging was a bit frustrating as it failed several times. Perhaps more should have been added about setting up a print test page as the instructions jumped to setting up fax and wifi.

Good Value

I am loving my 4550. Finally an honest printer with reasonably priced ink. The only reason that I do not give the printer 5 stars is the colored inks are dye based. I would prefer pigment based inks for photos. The set up wasn't exactly plug and play but I was able to figure it out quick enough. This is the first auto duplex copier that I have owned that the paper has not jammed when using the duplex feature. This is my third printer with the auto duplex feature.

I really like this printer. It's my first EPSON and I really love the ease of set up, use, and the ability to refill ink in a cost effective manner.

Worth The Extra Money

It is the same size as other 3 in 1 printers. It is not big a bulky and has an easy setup for USB or wireless. Just read the instructions and follow them. The ink kit comes with 8 bottles of ink (2 of each) and is very easy to fill the reservoirs. There are no computer chips or time stamps to lock you out of printing like there are on the printers with cartridge ink. It has 2 sided copying and an easy to read panel with big buttons. The scanner has 3 modes; home, office and professional each with many features. The top scan resolution in professional mode is 9600 dpi.

Epson Workforce ET-4550

Set up was a breeze, including the filling of the ink tanks, which I had read could be a messy affair. Not at all. Basic precautions, such as working on a level surface and wearing latex gloves, made it a simple process. I immediately fired up the printer, which has performed flawlessly over my Wi-Fi network ever since. It's an excellent choice for home use and even for a small business. Its color rendition is excellent and pictures printed on photographic quality paper turn out very good indeed.
