A big improvement

Finally someone has addressed the ink cost issues that have made consumer and small business printing so unpleasant. Solving the ink capacity and the ink cost problems in this one product makes the initial cost of the 4550 quite bearable.
Here's how I happened to become an ET-4550 owner.
I went to my office supply store to get multiple ink cartridges for an upcoming color print job I planned to do for a local charity. On the way to the door with an armload of cartridges and thinking of the charges I would face at the register, I passed a display of the 4550 - which I had heard advertised. I stopped and mentally did some math.
Soon the ink cartridges were back on the shelf and I was headed toward the register with the ET-4550 in my arms (lots of ink INCLUDED).
That was about 6 months ago and now we are several big print jobs later. I would have been back to the office supply store a couple more times for more expensive ink carts. As it is, with the 4550 I haven't even added a second ink filling yet ! The 4550 has paid for itself.
Added bonus - I was able to donate my perfectly good (but ink guzzling) printer to someone who will probably use it until they too need to escape from to "ink cart cost trap".
There is still some room for improvement before you make the "perfect" printer - but this will certainly keep me happy for quite a while.
I would be happy to offer a few product suggestions if you are interested but I first wanted to offer the well-deserved praise.

We purchased this printer with incometax to use for homeschooling our 4 granddaughters to see if it would help us with ink costs. We already had a perfectly great Epson printer that scanned, faxed printed it was also one of the ones that we could print from wireselessly but the whole reason for upgrading was the ink costs and I will have to say it was by far the best purchase we have made in a LONG time! We use it daily and we do have days we print lots of pages at once and my daughter also buys adult coloring books online and prints the whold book at once. This printer is the BEST we have bought yet!!!!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Needed to add more ink after 750 copies

I took the product out of the box, set it up, and was ready to print. I started printing on white card stock, flyers for work, and there wasn't even that much writing on them, or ink. No pictures..just one heart in the middle…and I had to refill ink after 750 pages printed. I needed 1500 total. I had to refill again when I completed.
I got nowhere near the "number of pages printed" that the advertisement claims this product will provide with the "starter" ink. It's a good think I bought extra ink at the store, even thought the salesman told me I wouldn't need it. He was wrong. I did, and considering I live on a barrier island an hour away from the retailer, and have had this experience in the past, I went against his recommendation and purchased extra ink.
Other than the ink…The product performs well. I just wish I had not gotten my hopes up about the ink.

There was no real instruction or setup disk with my purchase.
To prevent a real mess, it might be a good idea to use a syringe type device to pour in ink so
one can see how much is left without lifting the nozzle.
Other wise it is what I want. It seems to me to be a fine machine.

mediocre color prints at best..noisy when printing and a bit flimsy machine..the whole thing shakes when printing. Hopefully the ink will last awhile, which is the main reason i bought this printer

Epson printers are good, but they seriously have to fix the print head clogging issue, this is the only brand of printer which after refilling or changing the ink cartridges, it consumes 1/4 of ink in the cartridge in the initialization or cleaning process, doesn't matter if you use the ultra expensive Epson OEM cartridges or refill bottles, the only way to keep these printers unclogged is by printing several pages a day from day one. If you go on a 2 week vacation and your printer stays off and inactive for that time, there's an 80% chance of ink drying up in the print head and clogging one or more colors, then, if you're lucky, after like 3-4 head cleaning cycles and more than half a cartridge gone, the clog will clear up, but that's only if you're lucky. That's the main reason which has kept me from buying more Epson printers. This is not exclusive to cheap models, the more expensive higher end models suffer from the same fault.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

New Epson ET-4550 Setup

By following the easy paper instructions and the download software for my MAC, the initial setup for this new printer was a breeze!

This is my second Epson printer. The first one I returned to apply for a discount on the new printer. The prior model also worked flawlessly.
This model is awesome due to the fact that you can now fill up the printer ink with ink bottles to their respective ink tanks!!!
Way to go EPSON!!!!
