Best Investment ever

If you have an inexpensive printer and the ink cost more than the printer itself; you are wasting money! David Pouge calculated a gallons worth of ink cartridges to equal over $8000 dollars! THAT IS INSANE! Yes this printer may be priced more; but if you have replaced your ink cartridge more that five times a year, you have already paid for this EPSON WORKFORCE ET 4550 printer. This is a no brainer and the amount of printing we've done since purchase, there is PLENTY of ink left. Trust me you will not be disappointed!

LIves up to descriptions

I purchased this yesterday and got the unpacked, installed without any problems. I was a little slow at first as I was trying to jump ahead on the instructions. The paper tray as someone else has mentioned is a little rough adjusting. However, I've run test prints and it works great. Loading the ink was not as bad as anticipated. It could be messy if not careful. Just read the instructions and one can get it going. Time will tell how well it holds up. Also, it did not take up as much room as I was expecting based on the dimensions given.

We were spending approximately $200 to $300 a WEEK on ink. We heard about the Epson EcoTank and after I read the reviews, we decided to give it a try. Best decision we have made on a printer. The quality of the print is excellent, very bright and colorful. The best part is I filled the tanks up a month ago and still have over half full on all colors. Haven't had to refill. We own our own company and I am printing out close to 1,000 color copies a week . If you want to save money and have beautiful color prints, this is your answer. Great product !!!

Great Color Printing!

I've had this printer for more than a year. I filled the tanks with the starter ink bottles that came with it, and my wife has been printing LOTS of color prints, documents, etc. I have yet to need new ink for my printer. AMAZING! I was so tired of the earlier printers I would buy, and have to replace their cartridges every 2-3 months, at a cost of more than 1/2 the printer's "low" price, each time I made a replacement. The ET-4550 has a very low "consumable" cost per print, very competitive if not better than my B/W laser printer.
Only complaint? Just a single paper feed, whereas I could feed 4X6 photo paper and letter size paper in the paper trays at the same time. I miss being able to do borderless prints, also.
All in all, I am VERY happy with the ET-4550.

I've been wanting to buy this style and brand for years and finally got one. One of the best investments I've ever made. No more wasting money on cartridges every other month. The ink lasts a lot longer than my previous printer. Plus its wireless and I can also print from my phone if I choose.

One Year Later

After one year of use we are very happy with the choice we made. The ET-4550 has consistent color and b/w quality, and is always ready with plenty of ink. We print less than one ream (500 sheets) a year, but when we need it for paper copies, scans, printing out online tickets in a rush, etc it performs. We print photos for school projects. One caveat for new owners, when you need to print on photo paper (prem. glossy) is change the paper tray first, then the printer settings for size and type, and finally change the settings for paper or size in the program you will be printing from. The small LCD display and cryptic menus are a bit tough to handle initially, but with some practice and the help above you will be able to get er done.

Ink lasts and lasts - and that's about all that's good...

Pro: (notice there is no "s") The ink sure does last! Cons: The paper tray does not slide in easily - very clunky, and the amount of paper it holds is a tad pathetic. The lift lid is also clunky. It should have static or spring hinges to prevent slammed fingers. The ADF is S-L-O-W at best. Half the time I get a paper jam or out of paper error when it fails to pick up from the tray properly. There is no jam, and paper is properly loaded, it just does not pick it up. Item is about 1 year old and last week, the ADF failed to recognize anything in the slot. Today, the keypad is completely unresponsive. Too many steps required to do a simple FAX.
