Don't buy cartridges; buy a new printer!

I bought this as a price conscious alternative to buying color cartridges for an older printer. The BROTHER technology for scanning to cloud services, printing from my smart phone, etc. is great and, more important, it is easy to set-up and it works! This is a great deal.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Printer is Great

This printer/copier/fax was recommended by a woman who uses this in her office every day. It gets a lot of use and held up well. She said it was easy to set up and she had no problems from it. So I ordered one and indeed, it was easy to set up. I could immediately get it to copy but not make the wireless printing function work. I called the Brother hotline, talked with someone very helpful, and soon I was sitting in the other room and printing from my laptop. I am pleased with this purchase. I use it for personal printing and copying.
I would recommend this to a friend!

New Printer experience

Purchased the Brother J485DW after the holidays to replace an older HP jet.
Set-up was pretty easy, but had some issues with Fax. Phoned Tech Support and problem was resolved promptly.
So far, have printed about 100+ pages. Was surprised that ink cartridges (cads) ran out after about 50 pages.
Cads are quite expensive vs. the competition, but realize that's where you make your $.
Only other issue is this unit will not allow to be set as black & white print only as a default (confirmed by Tech Supp)? Hence, the Cads drain quickly. Also this model is slow vs. my old HP, but you get what you pay for.

Missing some of my fav features

I recently purchased the MFC-J485DW because my previous printer was the best printer ever. The current printer is dependable and low incidence of paper jams. The draw backs of the current printer is that it is noisy. I also feel that when i print a picture the quality of the print is not as crisp as my previous printer. I also had a SD reader on my previous printer and this model does not have that. I couldn't find this feature on any of the models that I looked. at.
