More complicated

I had been using the previous version of this printer and loved it. So I wanted to replace it with one as close as possible. I admit to being a little tentative with new products. But my son had no problem installing it and I successfully printed off some important documents. Then I wanted to print a photo and changed the print quality to "best." From that moment I was "dead in the water" trying to get it back to normal. Well, my son came back and, after a long conversation with your support staff, got me back on a good path. The next time I went to use it, however, the display was winking "telephone." I had not installed the fax option and could not get rid of the display. It was several days later before I plucked up the courage to look at the printer again. Then I fixed it myself by unplugging the power source and plugging it back in! So far, so good!

Good Product

This is a very good small printer and actually has more functions than I use. The one problem I have is that since I do not use the printer daily, or even weekly, it will go to sleep and not wake up. If I unplug the printer it will then work after being idle for long periods.
I would recommend this to a friend!

My only problem is keeping it connected over the WiFi to my Mac Book Pro. It prints once and disconnects!!!

More than getting your money's worth!!!

My first Brother Printer was a HL-1240 Laser and because it never gave me a single problem, I decided to make Brother my number one choice for printing equipment... So when I saw that the MFC-J4850W was a "All-In-One" device, I knew that it would do the job... The Scanner section is beautiful, the color printer is spectacular and easy to work with (love the two-sided printing) and with separate color ink jet cartridges, who could ask for me... Who knows - I may even find someone that needs a Fax from me too... Oh by the way - I still have that Laser HL-1240 and continue to use it on another "OLD" Xp Pro machine...
I would recommend this to a friend!

Mixed WIFI performance causes frustation

great printer except sometimes it appears to get printing orders from never never land. WIFI network is good and other items have no trouble communicating on it but the printer works only sometimes maybe
