Nice stove, questionable workmanship

I hate to write an iffy review because I like this stove. However, while converting it from natural gas to propane, several assembly defects were found. Two of the gas orifices had been cross threaded, making their removal a little hard but the installation of propane orifices difficult. General construction of the device was not too careful either. A number of screws securing panels and support brackets were missing - I installed screws in 4 places. The oven control panel was loose because the screws attaching it to the main frame were over-tightened and stripped out. All of this is unfortunate because it is, generally, a nice unit. The factory needs to tighten up its quality control and install torque limiters on the assembly line.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

While shopping I thought I'd spend a little more for a better than average oven/range. This range works good. not great. Oven also good not great. I think it's a very nice looking appliance however the black color shows dirt and grease. I feel I have to give it a thorough cleaning each time I cook something. The black paint scratches VERY easily. The oval center burners are nice though doesn't get very hot. I purchased the additional cook plate/griddle that changes out with the grate. The griddle seems like cheap aluminum with a very cheap non-stick coating that also stains and scratches very easily. Annoying because I use the soft scrub sponge and only wood or silicone cooking utensils. I do my best to take care of my things and have not been careless with this appliance. Yes I'm disappointed.

I had a range delivered on 10/13/2018. It stopped working the same day. I had a replacement range delivered 1 week later on 10/20/2018. While the range works I noticed a chip out of paint on the display panel. It was difficult to see during the installation and was missed, however, when I started using the range I noticed the chip out (about 1/4 inch in diameter). This may seem like a minor issue but after paying what I did and the troubles encountered, it seems that GE has forgotten what "Quality Means". I expected better.

Best kitchen range we've ever owned.

Purchased for our kitchen remodel 18 months ago and turned out to be the best range we've ever used.
1. Appearance is classic with all black cook top, and stainless surround. We found that using black silicone pre-formed strips (found on internet stores) between the range and counter top gives the range a "built-in" appearance as well as avoids messes along the range sides.
2. Performance is superb: easy to control oven temp, consistently even oven temp and convection fan works excellently. Cook top control are easy to use; the grates and griddle are level making it easy to slide pans across the surface without tipping. The griddle works very well. We also purchased the center grate to replace the griddle when extra heating surface is needed for large dinners. Electronic oven/broiler controls work well with easy visibility. The broiler is on the inside top of the oven and thus is easy to reach and control without bending and reaching to the bottom of the stove. While we have a broiling rack, we have not needed to use it finding that a raised edge tray lined with aluminum foil is sufficient for all our broiling needs to date. The flame spreader on the broiler works great, delivering broiler heat to a wide 18" width of surface area.
3. Maintenance: We can't say enough about how easy this range is to keep clean. The stainless steel and black coated steel surfaces clean up easily and don't easily scratch or chip like our previous white enameled ranges. The grates are heavy ceramic type coating with a high friction surface that prevents pots/pans from sliding around. An unexpected plus is that any drips on the grates are almost self-cleaning because when the burner is lit any splatter on the grates burns off requiring very little maintenance. The oven walls and surfaces and the glass door are easily cleaned by either steam/self cleaning cycle or using a paste of baking soda and vinegar makes lifts any burnt-on material leaving them spotless without the need for corrosive/dangerous cleaning chemicals. We have not had to purchase any special stainless steel cleaners or other special cleaners to keep the exterior spotless. Dish soap and sponge are all the are needed.
GE has done an excellent job on the design and construction of this range. We viewed and researched many ranges before purchase and find this model to meet our needs the best. It turned out to be a great value.
