TOTAL UPGRADE!

I have the Roku XS, but wanted to move it to my living room for the holidays. I purchased the 4 for my room. Love that I can make small payments to HSN being that this one fairly pricey. I was tempted to get Apple TV just so all my devices would be connected, but I like the new features on Roku 4 even though I don't have a 4K tv. Setup was super EASY. I left the old one connected because I thought I would have to re-enter all my old channels. To my total surprise, once set up was complete, the channels AUTOMATICALLY downloaded!! What a relief. I love voice search; the private listening with the earphones is TOTAL AWESOME-SAUCE! I just wish the ability to create folders for the channels was available. It's VERY annoying to have to SCROLL through all those channels! Hopefully, an upgrade will fulfill my wish. All in all, ROKU ROCKS! I'm a Roku gal fa life!

Really Fast!

I purchased this product ostensibly to access Acorn TV. Realized that I could access my Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts as well. Download speeds are far superior to what I was getting through my Blu-Ray player, which I have since disconnected.

4K streaming

I bought Roku4 because I bought Samsung UN55JU6500 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV and I was looking for a 4K source. I got what I wanted, even though the selection of shows/movies is quite limited (it is not roku's fault - it gives as much as it gets at this time). The quality of picture (credit to Roku4+Samsung) is amazing. But there is some firmware glitch. I have attached Roku4 as HDMI2 (I use HDMI1 for TV feed from the C-Spire fiber). Each time I switch the source (from HDMI1 to HDMI2) I find Roku4 non-responding. The remedy so far is to reboot Roku (power-off/power-on). Let me repeat: EACHT TIME I WANT TO USE ROKU. As a bonus I have to watch a 15s (or so) animation "ROKU"). While it is graphically very appealing, it it VERY ANNOYING when seen for the 127th time during the last week... (You know, during the holidays my home is full of children, each wants to watch something else, with a very short attention span). Once working again, it fulfills all my expectations of the quality of picture.

I had Roku 1 and I just got Roku 4. I am still trying to get used to it. I watched it last night. I watch something that I really like and it was great. I haven't watched "real" TV since I got it. There are so many choices.

Incredibly noisy when it gets hot, to the point where it is imposible to hear the TV at a comfortable level. And the way Youtube is organised is appaling, compared to the smart way it is on an Apple TV. Same for Netflix and other streaming programs. And just typing using the remote control is also terrible compared to the way Apple TV works. Other than the ability to show 4K content, the Roku4 is pretty horrible as a product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Roku improved with the 4 but they're not there yet

The Roku 4. The primary improvement is of course 4K support. They also added an optical out which is a plus for many people depending on their set ups. The app variety is market leading. There are also some interface improvements. However:
1) The app-specific buttons. Am I the only one that asked Roku to stop doing this? Now the remote has a Rdio button that is worthless. "Told you so". Any plans to offer Roku 4 owners new and improved remotes free of charge? Didn't think so.
2) The Roku 4 runs quite warm, even at 2K
3) HDMI handshake. Huge problem and I am using newly purchased gear with the latest standards (HDMI, HDCP).
4) When making a WiFi connection, if the connection doesn't work the first time you have to do it all over again (SSID, password)
5) Unlike most devices, you can only have one WiFi registered at a time. Even at generation four you still can't register more than one WiFi network and choose the one you want to use at that moment.
Because of the HDMI handshake problems I'm currently using Google Chomecast.

No Owners Manual

As I wrote in another review, my big problem is no information any where as to the operation. I had to chat on line with Roku to find out what the Micro SD is for and if I could access it. I find it is only for back up storage for Channels and Games. That is no use for me.
I can only get operators manual if I buy it on line. It could be built into the device like Samsung does.
