after 6 months use, still a huge disappointment

I love Roku. I have a Roku 3 that I still use with no problem. When they announced the Roku 4 specs I couldn't wait to get one. After using it for 6 months I don't understand how they can still sell this product.
First when I'm scrolling through movies the interface goes crazy and starts scrolling super fast and the remote stops controlling what you are doing. If I'm luck the remote will start working again but usually I have to reset the the Roku by unplugging the power. They have a reset button but it's not really a button. It's part of the case bottom and hard to find.
Second, youtube freezes when I try to watch any videos so no youtube...
Third, Netflix interface doesn't work... at all... It's gets confused and puts titles that don't match the movie. Recently it has started putting boxes on some of the letters in the titles so I feel like I'm playing wheel of fortune.
Lastly, when I contacted support they asked for the software version I was running and after they discovered it was the latest they hung up on me. I wasn't mad until after they hung up on me.
DO NOT BUY THE ROKU 4... Personally I'm questioning if I buy any ROKU products in the future.

1) POOR "CUSTOMER SERVICE"! Oh yeah, you can share your issues with them (email support) and they DO acknowledge that you contacted them; but, that's where the support ends. Other than that, they make NO ATTEMPT to solve your issue!!
2) If you need to use "Closed Captioning" while watching content - forget about it! This Roku 4 not only does NOT keep up with the screen you're viewing - but, it also does NOT display most of the words and the ones that it does display - are all scrambled!!
3) The biggest reason I bought the Roku 4 was for the headphones option. Be prepared to go broke trying to keep fresh-enough batteries in this remote! This unit came with Duracell batteries and they completely wore out in about 2 hours. With most other batteries - even rechargeable ones - you are real lucky if they last 2 hours!! If they do - you'd better hit the Vegas strip - you're on a real lucky streak!!

Terrible remote

You have to either re-pair the remote or restart the Roku daily, sometimes twice a day. If you want a Roku, buy the 3, not the 4.

Disappointing

When the fan runs it is too loud and, not sure why, but it appears that once it runs it does not turn off but continues to run even when not streaming from the Roku 4. Also not a fan of the UI, from the home screen you need to press a button to reach the channels, it should default to the channels rather than the choices on the left. Also, when Roku first came out it beat all the competition. Now for me, the streaming choices on my 4K Vizo TV is equal to quality and choice.

The Roku4 really stands up to the competition

The latest Roku4 has not let us down. It has excellent picture quality (much better than the white "washed out" look of the Apple TV Gen 4) with deep blacks and brilliant colors. The new remote has a great feel and is easy to use with many great enhancements (no need to point directly at the base unit, headphone jack for private listening and sensibly placed control buttons for ease of use). You will get a lot of "bang for the buck" with the new Roku4.

Love the remote finder

I bought this a couple weeks ago and I'm about 90% happy. The 10 % unhappy we'll cover first. I had hoped by upgrading from Roku 2 that my Sling TV service would improve. It didn't. The signal still breaks up and freezes frequently, especially on ESPN. (Yes, I'm spending bucks for some bad service on Sling.) And I know it's Sling that has the problem because EVERYTHING else (Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now, Amazon) works great. I even get captioning where I didn't before. The remote finder is a cool feature and the headphone hookups are super. I do feel it's a bit overpriced, but I'm old so everything seems that way now.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I think it's not worth the price

I've had the player for a month and the features in it are basically the same as my Roku 3 the only difference is that this one freezes at least once a day and I have to reach all the way behind the tv to disconnect it and reconnect it to have it function again

So many apps!

I've been a loyal Apple consumer since the early 90's and have had the Apple TV to supplement all of my other Mac products. I recently got the Apple TV 4, but the lack of apps that I wanted were not available. Now that I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sling TV, Spotify, and 100s of movies on VUDU, I needed one set-top box that could handle all of them. The Roku 4 does that, plus many more apps. I had recently purchased blutooth headphones so was disappointed that they were not compatible with the Roku 4, but the ability to plug in headphones into the remote is GENIUS. (and actually much more convenient than bluetooth)
There are two things that I hope Roku improves in the future. The first would be the ability to turn on/off my TV set and control my TV volume. Then I would only need to use one remote. Currently, I programmed a Harmony universal remote to control my TV and Roku, but I lose features like the headphone remote jack and the sound alarm on the Roku remote if i ever lose it.
The second improvement (and this is mainly because I spent week using the Apple TV 4) is improve the user interface. One thing that I think that is absurd is that 1/3 of my screen is a giant banner ad!!! The apps are then squished into three columns for the other 2/3s of the screen. I'm sure the banner ads help keep Roku a profitable company, but surely there must be a better design solution. I want my apps to be spread across the entire screen. I would even pay extra to have no banner ads. (not sure why there are any banner ads on a $129 device in the first place) Also, I miss the design and detail that Apple put into the Apple TV interface. the way the cursor moves to each apps, the smoothness of opening/closing apps, the subtle/secondary animations. The Roku 4 (while a step up from a standard cable box or DVD player interface) feels cheap and clunky. The set-top box is the only product Roku has. It should feel like a premium, well-designed product. Especially with the Apple TV 4 now on the market that has adopted many of the exclusive features that Roku had.
