Quick and easy setup

The Roku 4 differs from its predecessor in size and speed. But best, it's remains a quick and easy setup. The box is a bit larger which I suspect is because it's hardwired for 4K UHD Tv's such as the Samsung Smart TV I bought. It works much faster as well. My only complaint is that I wish the remote had a keypad to quickly enter email address, passwords and to change or choose channels. They could do that by removing the buttons for Netflix Amazon, radio and sling.

Faster access, smoother operation

We purchased the Roku 4 because we retired our Bedroom Roku 2 with our Kitchen Roku 3 and wanted the Roku 4 on our main set. I like everything about the Roku 4 except the missing Remite Hand Layard which was great help finding the remote. Operation is faster, picture is better, and YouTube videos are faster and easier to access.

Strong hardware - lackluster software

Bought the devices (3) being an owner of 3 Roku 3's.
Since I live outside the US, my channel option is very limited, I use the box mainly for Plex and Netflix. That of course is not Roku's fault, as nearly all channels are unavailable in my country due to territory rights.
Knowing that & not owning a 4K TV yet, I was hoping at least for a better interface for Plex and Netflix and unfortunately Roku did not deliver, especially for Plex.
The hardware maybe good but IMO Roku's general interface (& app interface) is lackluster to say the least and its selection of apps & games available really suffers compared to the Apple TV. I can't find any other good streaming apps nor can I find the games my daughter likes to play. My family all have iPhone so we are already invested into the Apple ecosystem. Roku just doesn't have those apps that would make me invest in its ecosystem now that the new Apple TV covers all my needs.
I now use an Apple TV 4 in my living room and my Roku boxes have moved either to other rooms/homes or are sitting in a drawer collecting dust.
I see that they update the box's firmware frequently and I can't complain that in general the apps are not relatively steady. However, this is 2016 and I like my eye candy, so I will stick to my Apple TV for now. Will give the box another shot when I switch to a 4K OLED, hoping that some app updates will come down the line.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Exceeds my expectations!

I own & use every model of the Roku, and couldn't wait to get the Roku-4. This is my only source of TV living in rural Nevada. The performance is excellent in all the models. Why the Roku-4? There is expanded memory, new features for the remote, and could not be easier to set up. You will not be disappointed!

I own a Roku 3, and always left it needed a little more under the hood. I bought a 4k LG TV with Smart Web OS. My Roku 3 did not play 4k, so I used the LG app for Netflix and found it kept having issues streaming. I was perplexed at it being a bandwidth issue and suspected the Wi Fi or processing in the TV was just poor. I gambled and bought a Roku 4 and streaming 4k was a breeze. 100% worth the purchase and the Roku OS feels more responsive than the 3, so bonus.
