Wide range, easy to use

I was having some trouble getting my favorite sports like NBA, MLB and NFL on my Sony PS3 so I decided to try the Roku 4. All my favorite channels, plus about 2,997 more are easily accessible on Roku 4. The video quality is good (can handle 4K), sound is good too. My only complaint is that I run a home theater (7.1) system and very little audio content is converted to DD5.1 (only 2.0). The exceptions are some movies on Vudu, Mgo and Netlfix. But none of the other popular streamers like Apple TV and Amazon Fire offer conversion to 5.1 either. That was a big advantage of using my PS3 as everything was converted to DD5.1, but the range of choices was very narrow. There are always some trade-offs, but the wide range of apps on Roku makes up for the lack of 5.1 content. If they ever make 5.1 more available, then they will conquer this segment.

Bad lip sync problem on movies and some tv shows

All features work well except the irritation from bad lip sync being out of phase with movie and tv shows in the screen. Updating firmware does not fix the issue and I don't have the same problem with Apple TV which is being managed by my same ststem. Therefore, it is the Roku and it was already replaced once to try and fix the problem!

Needs additional features

Roku needs better instructions when hooking up through a surround sound system. I could use more information as to how I could get the 4k resolution to work through my system. However, this problem may be through design as Roku may need to be hooked up directly to Ultra HD 4k and cannot go through a surround sound system and still produce 4k resolution picture.

Love this model. They only thing I noticed missing on Netflix I now no longer have the ability to push a button before the option for "More like this". It really was a feature I liked I would also love the ability to pay for more individual channels. FX, for example...

Won't provide 4K or Dolby Atmos

Bought specifically to watch 4K video and listen to Dolby Atmos surround sound. The Roku won't do either on our Samsung UHD TV or when routed through a Pioneer SC-91 to the TV. On a Denon X2200W we have it would not even connect claiming our TV was not HDCP 2.2 compliant. Of course it is. New equipment is all about HDCP and 4K video and both of our systems can also do Dolby Atmos. We have plenty of apps already that can do 1080 and Dolby 5.1 so we didn't need to buy yet another. Beware. A lot of misinformation abounds here.

Whole New World

My daughter gave me the Roku 4 for Christmas in 2015. I now enjoy an endless plethora of movies, TV series and documentaries not available to me through ordinary cable. There is a whole new world for me to explore, and I am excited at the possibilities it brings at no extra cost!

I bought the roku 4 last week after having several different streaming decices. I don't even normally write reviews, but this thing has been flawless. Easy to set up, works great and have ZERO problems at all! 5 star for sure!!!
