We have been Roku customers for about 7 years now . Each generation gets better and better . We are now using two . Latest is the Roku $ , so that we can use it with our 4K HD LG .

I bought this with a specific reason in mind but it's overall usefulness is great. I have a Tablo TV DVR which I have been unhappy with using the normal Tablo apps available for android or casting to a chrome cast or apple TV box. The Tablo channel on Roku works GREAT.
I have an apple TV box, a 'smart' TV and a chrome cast. I prefer the Roku over all of them. The apple TV box only works if you are in the Apple universe, but the Roku does all the apple can do plus more, and it's agnostic. It makes no difference if you have Apple, Windows, or Android.
The setup was a cinch, no problems at all. I'm happy with my experiences in the last several week.

Very buggy!

I bought the Roku 4 to finish my 4k set up after being completely satisfied with my Roku 3 I thought this was a no brainer. I was wrong.
First, the Roku 4 doesn't auto detect your 4k signal you have to go into the settings and activate the 4k pass through. It would have saved some initial frustration if this was clearly labeled somewhere.
Second, 25% of the screen will flicker green maybe 4 or 5 times during a movie only when streaming 4k.
Third, and this is the most recent problem and the reason I am writing this review is that while watching a movie today the movie just stopped plying and closed out all by it self then when I tried restarting the movie it just started acting erratically by moving through all the columns by itself. so I went to unplug it and noticed that the device was very warm almost hot(I have the internal cooler active too)to the touch. so I unplugged it waited for it to cool turned it back on and the same thing happened. I decided to Flip the thing up side so that the cooling vents face up, :/ so far so good.
I guess I can informatively say save your money and wait for an updated model or firm wear update to solve these issues. If you don't mind these little quirks it does work as desired most of the time these issues seem to happen only when streaming 4k. Hopefully this latest issue isn't an ongoing one.

I bought the Roku4 to replace my Amazon Firestick and I am so happy I made the purchase. The Roku 4 was easy to set up and the reception is great--no buffering. I also have the Apple TV, and I disconnected it in favor of the Roku 4. The remote is so easy to use that even my husband can manage it.

Good alternative to cable!

I love the variety that is offered when using this Roku. You can pick and choose channels that you want without the annoyance of paying for channels you don't want. The only downside to this device is that there are no accessibility options. I am legally blind and I mostly have to depend on my husband to control the device. That's the downside of choosing this device over an Apple TV, which offers full accessibility
