I'll keep this short by not praising on the good parts and jump right into the critique. The parts that stink are:
1. The remote is pretty handy and responsive compared to my DirecTv (which BTW, sucked big time), however, you would still need your TV remote for volume. The volume controls that come with the remote apply to headphones/earphones only. Having one remote to control TV and Roku would be sweet. 2. The interface is pretty neat, but the search feature is where it needs work and i believe in part it is dependent on the actual content providers/owners. You could search for content and it will list you options where you can watch it but not all the options. For e.g. If you already have a Netflix subscription and try to search for a movie that is already in Netflix, it might not show Netflix in the list but would give you a list with purchase options on other apps/content providers. This is very concerning cause you might actually purchase something that you may have available for free from another app/provider. Basically, it doesn't search through all the apps. So thats the big sucky part.

I've had all the Roku's at some point, 1...2...3...and now 4 and I will say although all of my TV's are smart TV's I don't use their set up, I always use a Roku...they are all (Roku's 1, 2, 3, and now 4) much faster than any smart TV and the new Roku 4 is definitely a much sharper and better picture even though I don't have a 4K TV, my picture is far better. If you don't have a Roku...GET ONE! You don't know what you're missing.

Decent enough alternative option for streaming sho

I bought the Roku 4 after experiencing buffering issues with my Roku 2 and my Plex server. This seems to have resolved my issues for the most part. The only thing I don't like about the Roku is when streaming from Netflix the audio is slightly out of synch with the video. If I stream Netflix through my SmartTV, this does not occur, it only happens when streaming through the Roku 4.

I wanted to replace my media computer with roku 4 but it lacked a browser, typable remote or wireless keyboard. Power button or easy to access menu, have to have account with credit card to pretty much do anything which is Scarry.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
