I bought this I had to return the first one because it was getting so hot that it was constantly giving me a purple screen and not allowing me to do anything on it at all. So I returned that one got a different one even did some changes in the settings so that it would shut off and not constantly run and get too hot. But I still get the same thing that purple screen of death as I have researched and I am not the only one who has had that problem. It happens a lot with my Hulu account which it does not do that on any of my other devices just with the Roku players. If you are watching One episode and then you back out to try to watch another so you actually have to fully go out of the Hulu application and then go back in for it to reload to be able to watch. Gets very frustrating and gets frustrating to wear the research that I have looked up myself and others you also have to unplug everything and replugged everything back in to get it to work properly very frustrating considering the price that I've paid
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love it!! Fast and easy to use

I bought this device to replace my wii for my living room TV. I had recently bought a roku TV for my bedroom and I love it, so I knew what to expect. I love the speed of it and the many channels to choose from. I have Netflix and hulu and my only complaint is that I wish there was a way to see what you've previously watched. I have only heard the fan a couple of times but I don't have an issue with it. I love the roku app and use it a lot.

The Roku 4 is a wonderful upgrade from the old roku 2 we had.Now if we only had an UHD tv to watch the 4K content that would be great.My only cpmplaint is the remote got dropped only by my daughter which is 2 and the back of the remote where you put the batteries in broke and we had to put tape on it to keep it in place and its not even a week old yet.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I don't have a 4K or UHD TV yet, but planning to get one down the road. I purchased this unit due to lack of software choices on my Sony Blu-Ray player. I don't use the Wi-Fi feature since my preference is hard wired. Unit is fast and quick responsive to the remote. Haven't heard this loud fan noise that some people experience. But have experience the unit being hot though. Menus are customizable to your liking (free) or can purchase for more customizing. Only had this unit for couple weeks and still trying out. When setting up for display, your choices are 720 / 1080 / 4K / or 4K 10 Bit. I've learned to leave the Sound in Auto. I chosen several different options and no sound will output. Your choice is either bitstream or optical.
My only complaint is color. I'm having an unusual hard time to calibrate the Roku 4 colors / tint. My main preference is watching VUDU, that's why. I might have a bad HDMI 2.0 complaint cord, so for now I'm awaiting for a new one.

So Far, Awesome!

I've only had the player for a few days and I love it so far. I saw some reviews stating that the fan was noisy, but we haven't had a problem with that at all. The picture is clear and the content is amazing. I also love the 'find the remote' feature. The only thing I wish it had was an on/off button.

Better than the others

Having owned the Roku 2 XD and Roku 3 players, I had to figure out each idiosyncrasies as to why it did what it did, etc... The Roku 4, so far is much better and worth the extra money. It has an Intel 4 Core Processor in it, so it definitely has better processing power than the others. The Voice Command feature isn't as good as I would like, understanding what I say is sometimes difficult for it to recognize. All in all, it is worth the money for the technology and features, especially when Ia get My new 65 inch 4K television.

Roku is smarter than my smart TV

I watch video from Acorn TV as my main entertainment. After buying a 75 inch Samsung 4k "smart" TV, I bought a Roku 4 to add the smarts I want. Roku had my app, and Samsung did not! Yeah, Roku!
