I purchased the Roku 4 recently and I am amazed just how clear my picture is. Not only is the picture razor sharp clear but the amount of available networks, shows and my favorite sports. I feel very fortunate having it.

I have had all of them including Google - Apple - Amazon and the Roku seems to play nice with everything and also offers more then any of the above content.

Roku is fantastic, but this remote needs help...

Our first digital media player was a Roku (2 XS, I think). It worked well until we plugged the wrong adapter in and fried something inside. Being an all iPhone household, we decided to try the appleTV (3rd gen) next. After a couple years of use, we decided that the "synergy" across apple products was outweighed by our frustrations and the lack of native apps on appleTV. So, a couple weeks ago we got the Roku 4. Our main observations, first the Pros:
- The selection of apps is fantastic, which as mentioned above was the main reason for making the switch, namely Sling TV, VidAngel, BYUtv, and a plethora tv and video sources instead of just iTunes! - Ability to voice search for a movie/show across said plethora of outlets to price compare, though Sling's movie's aren't included. That said, most apps have the same prices now it seems. - Remote finder feature is great, particularly with a toddler in the house. - The Roku phone app makes a great backup remote, and connects much better than our old appleTV's phone app (in fairness, it wasn't the most recent appleTV).
Now the Cons: - The remote disconnects almost daily!!! This is the reason I can't give it 5 stars. We have to pair the remote almost daily, typically by power cycling the Roku. Our older Roku never did this (no, it wasn't an IR remote). - Voice recognition only works for main search feature, and does not allow searching within an app like YouTube. - Unit runs hot, but that doesn't seem to affect performance - Worthless Rdio button. I hope they reprogram it to. Lastly, we don't yet have a 4k tv, so we'll have to look into that major feature in the future.

If you don't have a 4K TV, don't bother

I upgraded from a Roku 3 because I needed to replace one of my older units. The Roku 4 is a little faster but not appreciably. I don't have a 4K TV do that feature isn't useful to me yet. However, the bad thing is my unit locks up every day (if 30 minute shutdown is not enabled). This means you have to pull power to reboot it. I've read of others having this problem so maybe there is a bad batch out there.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have a non-smart TV. I used to have a smart DVD player but it was slow and didn't seem to have enough processing power. The Roku 4 totally surpassed my expectations. I use it for netflix and Plex media server mainly. Highly recommend, won't disappoint!

No HDMI cable

Disappointed. The only way to hook up to the tv and it did not supply an HDMI cable!
